Composition and method for treating white rust
Abstract
A composition and method of inhibiting white rust on galvanized steel in water system. The composition preferably comprises two parts, a first part comprising oleylamine and optionally comprising 2-diethylaminoethanol and cyclohexylamine, and a second part comprising phosphonobutane tricarboxylic acid, tolytrizole, and a polymer, and optionally comprising a tracer or sodium hydroxide. A preferred composition comprises two commercially available products, Cetamine V217 S and Chem-Aqua 31155. A preferred method of inhibiting white rust comprises adding the two parts of the composition or two commerically available products to the water in a water system to be treated in an amount sufficient to provide a concentration of the first part of around 200-500 ppm and of the second part of around 50-150 ppm.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed:
1. A composition for inhibiting white rust on galvanized steel in water systems, the composition comprising a first component and a second component, wherein
the first component comprises oleylamine in an amount more than 0% and up to around 2.5%, and 2-diethylaminoethanol and cyclohexylamine; and
the second component comprises 5% to 15% 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4 tricarboxylic acid, sodium salt (50%), 5-15% sodium tolytriazole (50%), and around 2% to 10% sodium polyacrylate or around 1-5% polymaleic acid sodium salt or both.
2. The composition according to claim 1 wherein the second component further comprises a tracer.
3. The composition according to claim 1 wherein the second component further comprises sodium hydroxide.
4. The composition according to claim 1 wherein the first component further comprises around 2.5-10% 2-diethylaminoethanol and around 2.5-5% cyclohexylamine.
5. The composition of claim 1 wherein the first component is in a concentration of 200-500 ppm and the second component is in a concentration of 50-150 ppm when added to water in the water system.
6. The composition of claim 1 wherein a concentration ratio of the first component to the second component is between 1.33:1 and 10:1.
7. A two part composition for inhibiting white rust on galvanized steel in water systems, a first part of the composition consisting essentially of oleylamine in an amount more than 0% and up to 2.5%, 2.5-10% 2-diethylaminoethanol, 2.5-5% cyclohexylamine, and water; and
a second part of the composition consisting essentially of 5% to 15% 2-phophonobutane-1,2,4 tricarboxylic acid, sodium salt (50%), 5-15% sodium tolytriazole (50%), 1-5% polymaleic acid sodium salt, 2% to 10% sodium polyacrylate, and water.
8. The two part composition of claim 7 wherein the first component is in a concentration of 200-500 ppm and the second component is in a concentration of 50-150 ppm when added to water in the water system.
9. The two part composition of claim 7 wherein a concentration ratio of the first component to the second component is between 1.33:1 and 10:1.Cited by (0)
