Service provider user accounts

Abstract

Examples described herein involve managing two or more user accounts via which a media playback system can access a service provider, and displaying on a graphical display, graphical representations of at least one of the two or more user accounts via which a media playback system can access a service provider.

We claim: 
     
       1. A playback device comprising:
 a network interface; 
 one or more processors; and 
 data storage having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the playback device to perform functions comprising:
 accessing data representing credentials for multiple user accounts, the multiple user accounts comprising (i) a first user account of a first streaming media service provider (ii) a second user account of the first streaming media service provider, and (iii) a first user account of a second streaming media service provider, wherein the first user account of the first streaming media service provider is associated with a first network device configured to control the playback device, and wherein the second user account of the first streaming media service provider is associated with a second network device configured to control the playback device; 
 receiving, via the network interface from the first network device configured to control the playback device, one or more messages indicating (i) an identification of the first network device and (ii) an instruction to play first media content from the first streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the one or more messages, selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the first network device and (ii) the association of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider with the first network device; and 
 after selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider, playing the first media content, wherein playing the first media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the first media content from the first streaming media service provider using credentials of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
 
 
     
     
       2. The playback device of  claim 1 , wherein the functions further comprise:
 receiving, via the network interface from the first network device, a request for data indicating (i) streaming media service providers registered with a media playback system and iii) the multiple user accounts, the media playback system including the playback device, wherein the streaming media service providers registered with the media playback system include the first streaming media service provider and the second streaming media service provider; and 
 in response to the request, transmitting to the first network device, the requested data. 
 
     
     
       3. The playback device of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more messages are one or more first messages, and wherein the functions further comprises:
 receiving, via the network interface from the first network device, an instruction to associate the identification of the first network device with the second user account of the first streaming media service provider; 
 modifying the association of the first network device from the first user account of the first streaming media service provider to the second user account of the first streaming media service provider; 
 thereafter, receiving, via the network interface from the first network device, one or more second messages indicating (i) the identification of the first network device and (ii) an instruction to play second media content from the first streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the second message, selecting the second user account of the first streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the first network device and (ii) the association of the second user account of the first streaming media service provider with the first network device; and 
 after selecting the second user account of the first streaming media service provider, playing the second media content, wherein playing the second media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the second media content from the first streaming media service provider using credentials of the second user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       4. The playback device of  claim 1 , wherein the functions further comprise:
 before accessing the data representing credentials for multiple user accounts, receiving via the network interface from the first network device, (i) the identification of the first network device, and (ii) data representing credentials of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider; and 
 causing storage of data indicating that the identification of the first network device is associated with the first user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       5. The playback device of  claim 1 , wherein the data further indicates (i) a first priority indicator corresponding to the first user account of the first streaming media service provider and (ii) a second priority indicator corresponding to the second user account of the first streaming media service provider; and wherein selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider comprises selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider further based on the first priority indicator. 
     
     
       6. The playback device of  claim 1 , wherein the functions further comprise:
 receiving, via the network interface from the second network device, one or more second messages indicating (i) an identification of the second network device and (ii) an instruction to play second media content from the second streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the second message, selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) abased on the identification of the second network device and (ii) an association of the first user account of the second streaming media service provider with the second network device; and 
 after selecting the first user account of the second streaming media service provider, playing the second media content, wherein playing the second media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the second media content from the second streaming media service provider using credentials of the first user account of the second streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       7. The playback device of  claim 1 , wherein the functions further comprise:
 receiving a message indicating that the first user account of the first streaming media service provider is a default user account for the first streaming media service provider; 
 causing storage of data indicating that the first user account is the default user account for the first streaming media service provider; 
 thereafter, receiving, via the network interface from a third network device configured to control the playback device, one or more messages indicating (i) an identification of the third network device and (ii) an instruction to play fourth media content from the first streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the one or more messages, selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the third network device and (ii) determining based on the accessed data, that the identification of the third network device is not associated with any user account for the first streaming media service provider; and 
 after selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider, playing the fourth media content, wherein playing the fourth media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the fourth media content from the first streaming media service provider using credentials of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       8. The playback device of  claim 1 , wherein accessing the data representing credentials for the multiple user accounts comprises:
 retrieving, from the data storage of the playback device, the data representing credentials for the multiple user accounts. 
 
     
     
       9. The playback device of  claim 1 , wherein accessing the data representing credentials for the multiple user accounts comprises:
 accessing the data representing credentials for the multiple user accounts via another computing device in communication with the playback device. 
 
     
     
       10. Tangible non-transitory computer-readable media having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a playback device, cause the playback device to perform functions comprising:
 accessing data representing credentials for multiple user accounts, the multiple user accounts comprising (i) a first user account of a first streaming media service provider (ii) a second user account of the first streaming media service provider, and (iii) a first user account of a second streaming media service provider, wherein the first user account of the first streaming media service provider is associated with a first network device configured to control the playback device, and wherein the second user account of the first streaming media service provider is associated with a second network device configured to control the playback device; 
 receiving, via a network interface from the first network device configured to control the playback device, one or more messages indicating (i) an identification of the first network device and (ii) an instruction to play first media content from the first streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the one or more messages, selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the first network device and (ii) the association of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider with the first network device; and 
 after selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider, playing the first media content, wherein playing the first media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the first media content from the first streaming media service provider using credentials of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       11. The tangible non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 10 , wherein the functions further comprise:
 receiving, via the network interface from the first network device, a request for data indicating (i) streaming media service providers registered with a media playback system and (ii) the multiple user accounts, the media playback system including the playback device, wherein the streaming media service providers registered with the media playback system include the first streaming media service provider and the second streaming media service provider; and 
 
       in response to the request, transmitting to the first network device, the requested accessed data. 
     
     
       12. The tangible non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 10 , wherein the one or more messages are one or more first messages, and wherein the functions further comprises:
 receiving, via the network interface from the first network device, an instruction to associate correspond the identification of the first network device with the second user account of the first streaming media service provider; 
 modifying the association of the first network device from the first user account of the first streaming media service provider to the second user account of the first streaming media service provider; 
 thereafter, receiving, via the network interface from the first network device, one or more second messages indicating (i) the identification of the first network device and (ii) an instruction to play second media content from the first streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the second message, selecting the second user account of the first streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the first network device and (ii) the association of the second user account of the first streaming media service provider with the first network device; and 
 after selecting the second user account of the first streaming media service provider, playing the second media content, wherein playing the second media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the second media content from the first streaming media service provider using credentials of the second user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       13. The tangible non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 10 , wherein the functions further comprise:
 prior to accessing the data representing credentials for multiple user accounts, receiving via the network interface from the first network device, (i) the identification of the first network device, and (ii) data representing credentials of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider; and 
 causing storage of data indicating that the identification of the first network device is associated with the first user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       14. The tangible non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 10 , wherein the data further indicates (i) a first priority indicator corresponding to the first user account of the first streaming media service provider and (ii) a second priority indicator corresponding to the second user account of the first streaming media service provider; and wherein selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider comprises selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider further based on the first priority indicator. 
     
     
       15. A method comprising:
 accessing, via a playback device, data representing credentials for multiple user accounts, the multiple user accounts comprising (i) a first user account of a first streaming media service provider (ii) a second user account of the first streaming media service provider, and (iii) a first user account of a second streaming media service provider, wherein the first user account of the first streaming media service provider is associated with a first network device configured to control the playback device, and wherein the second user account of the first streaming media service provider is associated with a second network device configured to control the playback device; 
 receiving, via a network interface of the playback device from the first network device configured to control the playback device, one or more messages indicating (i) an identification of the first network device and (ii) an instruction to play first media content from the first streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the one or more messages, selecting, via the playback device, the first user account of the first streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the first network device and (ii) the association of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider with the first network device; and 
 after selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider, playing, via the playback device, the first media content, wherein playing the first media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the first media content from the first streaming media service provider using credentials of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       16. The method of  claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises:
 receiving, via the network interface from the second network device, one or more second messages indicating (i) an identification of the second network device and (ii) an instruction to play second media content from the second streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the second message, selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the second network device and (ii) an association of the first user account of the second streaming media service provider with the second network device; and 
 
       after selecting the first user account of the second streaming media service provider, playing the second media content, wherein playing the second media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the second media content from the second streaming media service provider using credentials of the first user account of the second streaming media service provider. 
     
     
       17. The method of  claim 15 , further comprising:
 receiving a message indicating that the first user account of the first streaming media service provider is a default user account for the first streaming media service provider; 
 causing storage of data indicating that the first user account is the default user account for the first streaming media service provider; 
 thereafter, receiving, via the network interface from a third network device configured to control the playback device, one or more messages indicating (i) an identification of the third network device and (ii) an instruction to play fourth media content from the first streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the one or more messages, selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the third network device and (ii) determining based on the accessed data, that the identification of the third network device is not associated with any user account for the first streaming media service provider; and 
 
       after selecting the first user account of the first streaming media service provider, playing the fourth media content, wherein playing the fourth media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the fourth media content from the first streaming media service provider using credentials of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
     
     
       18. The method of  claim 15 , further comprising:
 prior to accessing the data representing credentials for multiple user accounts, receiving, via the playback device from the first network device, (i) the identification of the first network device, and (ii) data representing credentials of the first user account of the first streaming media service provider; and 
 causing, via the playback device, storage of data indicating that the identification of the first network device is associated with the first user account of the first streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       19. The playback device of  claim 1 , wherein the functions further comprise:
 receiving, via the network interface from the first network device, one or more second messages indicating (i) the identification of the first network device and (ii) an instruction to play third media content from the second streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the second message, selecting the first user account of the second streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the first network device and (ii) an association of the first user account of the second streaming media service provider with the first network device; and 
 after selecting the first user account of the second streaming media service provider, playing the media content, wherein playing the third media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the third media content from the second streaming media service provider using credentials of the first user account of the second streaming media service provider. 
 
     
     
       20. The method of  claim 15 , further comprising:
 receiving, via the network interface from the first network device, one or more second messages indicating (i) the identification of the first network device and (ii) an instruction to play third media content from the second streaming media service provider; 
 in response to receiving the second message, selecting the first user account of the second streaming media service provider from among the multiple user accounts (i) based on the identification of the first network device and (ii) an association of the first user account of the second streaming media service provider with the first network device; and 
 after selecting the first user account of the second streaming media service provider, playing the media content, wherein playing the third media content comprises streaming, via the network interface, data representing the third media content from the second streaming media service provider using credentials of the first user account of the second streaming media service provider.
