Therapeutic compounds and methods of use thereof

Abstract

The invention provides compounds that are useful for treating or preventing cancer.

The invention claimed is: 
     
       1. A compound of formula (Ic): 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       wherein:
 the 5-membered ring that comprises two O atoms is optionally substituted with 1 or 2 groups independently selected from halo, hydroxy, cyano, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, (C 1 -C 3 )alkyl, and (C 1 -C 3 )alkoxy; 
 X is CH; 
 A is —CH 2 CH 2 —, —CR b ═CH—, or —CH═CH—CH═CH—; 
 R 3  is H, or (C 1 -C 6 )alkyl; 
 Y is CH 2 ; 
 R 4  is H, halo, (C 1 -C 6 )alkyl, or (C 1 -C 6 )alkoxy; 
 R 5  is (C 1 -C 6 )alkoxy that is optionally substituted with phenyl; 
 R 6  is H, halo, (C 1 -C 6 )alkyl, or (C 1 -C 6 )alkoxy; 
 and 
 R b  is H or phenyl that is optionally substituted with 1, 2, or 3 groups independently selected from halo, hydroxy, cyano, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, (C 1 -C 3 )alkyl, and (C 1 -C 3 )alkoxy; 
 or a salt thereof. 
 
     
     
       2. The compound of  claim 1  wherein the 5-membered ring that comprises two O atoms is not substituted. 
     
     
       3. The compound of  claim 1  wherein A is —CH 2 CH 2 —. 
     
     
       4. The compound of  claim 1  wherein R 3  is H. 
     
     
       5. The compound of  claim 1  wherein R 5  is methoxy, ethoxy, propoxy, benzyloxy, or butoxy. 
     
     
       6. A compound selected from: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       or a salt thereof. 
     
     
       7. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound as described in  claim 1 , or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 
     
     
       8. The compound of  claim 4 , wherein A is —CH 2 CH 2 —.
