Abstract
A device with a touch-sensitive display may be unlocked via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display. The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays one or more unlock images with respect to which the predefined gesture is to be performed in order to unlock the device. The performance of the predefined gesture with respect to the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may also display visual cues of the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1. An electronic device, comprising:
a touch-sensitive display;
one or more processors; and
memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:
displaying one or more visual cues on the touch-sensitive display while the electronic device is in a first state, the one or more visual cues indicating a predefined gesture on the touch-sensitive display that transitions the electronic device from the first state to a second state when performed;
detecting a contact on the touch-sensitive display while the electronic device is in the first state;
detecting movement of the contact on the touch-sensitive display;
in response to detecting the movement of the contact on the touch-sensitive display, continuously modifying an unlock image on the touch-sensitive display in accordance with the movement of the contact;
determining if the detected movement of the contact corresponds to the predefined gesture;
in accordance with a determination that the detected movement of the contact corresponds to the predefined gesture, transitioning the electronic device to the second state; and
in accordance with a determination that the detected movement of the contact does not correspond to the predefined gesture, maintaining the electronic device in the first state.
2. The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:
while the electronic device is in the first state, preventing the electronic device from performing a predefined set of actions in response to detecting any contact with the touch-sensitive display that does not correspond to the predefined gesture.
3. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more visual cues include an animation related to the predefined gesture.
4. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein determining if the detected movement of the contact corresponds to the predefined gesture is performed in response to detecting an end of the contact on the touch-sensitive display.
5. The electronic device of claim 4 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:
prior to detecting movement of the contact on the touch-sensitive display, displaying the unlock image in an unmodified state on the touch-sensitive display; and
in accordance with the determination that the detected movement of the contact does not correspond to the predefined gesture, modifying the unlock image back to the unmodified state.
6. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein:
the predefined gesture comprises movement of a point of contact from a first location on the touch-sensitive display to a second location on the touch-sensitive display; and
continuously modifying the unlock image on the touch-sensitive display in accordance with movement of the contact visually indicates progress of the movement towards the second location.
7. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first state is a user-interface lock state.
8. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the second state is a user-interface unlock state.
9. A method, comprising:
at an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display:
displaying one or more visual cues on the touch-sensitive display while the electronic device is in a first state, the one or more visual cues indicating a predefined gesture on the touch-sensitive display that transitions the electronic device from the first state to a second state when performed;
detecting a contact on the touch-sensitive display while the electronic device is in the first state;
detecting movement of the contact on the touch-sensitive display;
in response to detecting the movement of the contact on the touch-sensitive display, continuously modifying an unlock image on the touch-sensitive display in accordance with the movement of the contact;
determining if the detected movement of the contact corresponds to the predefined gesture;
in accordance with a determination that the detected movement of the contact corresponds to the predefined gesture, transitioning the electronic device to the second state; and
in accordance with a determination that the detected movement of the contact does not correspond to the predefined gesture, maintaining the electronic device in the first state.
10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
while the electronic device is in the first state, preventing the electronic device from performing a predefined set of actions in response to detecting any contact with the touch-sensitive display that does not correspond to the predefined gesture.
11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the one or more visual cues include an animation related to the predefined gesture.
12. The method of claim 9 , wherein determining if the detected movement of the contact corresponds to the predefined gesture is performed in response to detecting an end of the contact on the touch-sensitive display.
13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
prior to detecting movement of the contact on the touch-sensitive display, displaying the unlock image in an unmodified state on the touch-sensitive display; and
in accordance with the determination that the detected movement of the contact does not correspond to the predefined gesture, modifying the unlock image back to the unmodified state.
14. The method of claim 9 , wherein:
the predefined gesture comprises movement of a point of contact from a first location on the touch-sensitive display to a second location on the touch-sensitive display; and
continuously modifying the unlock image on the touch-sensitive display in accordance with movement of the contact visually indicates progress of the movement towards the second location.
15. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first state is a user-interface lock state.
16. The method of claim 9 , wherein the second state is a user-interface unlock state.
17. An non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs configured to be executed by one or more processors of an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display, the one or more programs including instructions for:
displaying one or more visual cues on the touch-sensitive display while the electronic device is in a first state, the one or more visual cues indicating a predefined gesture on the touch-sensitive display that transitions the electronic device from the first state to a second state when performed;
detecting a contact on the touch-sensitive display while the electronic device is in the first state;
detecting movement of the contact on the touch-sensitive display;
in response to detecting the movement of the contact on the touch-sensitive display, continuously modifying an unlock image on the touch-sensitive display in accordance with the movement of the contact;
determining if the detected movement of the contact corresponds to the predefined gesture;
in accordance with a determination that the detected movement of the contact corresponds to the predefined gesture, transitioning the electronic device to the second state; and
in accordance with a determination that the detected movement of the contact does not correspond to the predefined gesture, maintaining the electronic device in the first state.
18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:
while the electronic device is in the first state, preventing the electronic device from performing a predefined set of actions in response to detecting any contact with the touch-sensitive display that does not correspond to the predefined gesture.
19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the one or more visual cues include an animation related to the predefined gesture.
20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein determining if the detected movement of the contact corresponds to the predefined gesture is performed in response to detecting an end of the contact on the touch-sensitive display.
