Abstract

Certain embodiments provide multi-medicament infusion systems for preventing the cross-channeling of medicaments. The system may include one or more of an infusion pump, medicament reservoirs, a multi-channel fluid conduit, and an infusion set. The medicament reservoirs and/or collars may be sized and shaped differently such that the medicament reservoirs can only be inserted into the system under selected configurations.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

       1. A medicament infusion system for delivering multiple medicaments to a patient, the medicament infusion system comprising:
 a first reservoir set comprising:
 a first inlet connector configured to engage a first medicament reservoir that comprises a first medicament reservoir port and a first medicament, the first inlet connector being configured to fit over at least a portion of the first medicament reservoir port, the first inlet connector comprising:
 a first needle configured to receive the first medicament;
 a first engaging member configured to engage a portion of the first medicament reservoir thereby coupling the first inlet connector to the first medicament reservoir; and
 a first check valve configured to allow the first medicament to flow from the first medicament reservoir in response to a first threshold fluid pressure being applied to the first medicament;
 wherein the first threshold fluid pressure is greater than a gravitationally induced hydrostatic pressure caused by placing the first reservoir set above an infusion site of the patient; and

 a second reservoir set comprising:
 a second inlet connector configured to engage a second medicament reservoir that comprises a second medicament reservoir port and a second medicament, the second inlet connector being configured to fit over at least a portion of the second medicament reservoir port, the second inlet connector comprising:
 a second needle configured to receive the second medicament; and
 a second engaging member configured to engage a portion of the second medicament reservoir thereby coupling the second inlet connector to the second medicament reservoir.

       2. The medicament infusion system of claim 1 , wherein the first medicament inlet connector comprises features configured to prevent coupling to the second medicament reservoir.

       3. The medicament infusion system of claim 2 , wherein the second medicament inlet connector comprises features configured to prevent coupling to the first medicament reservoir.

       4. The medicament infusion system of claim 1 , wherein the first check valve is configured to substantially prevent unintended distribution of the first medicament from the first medicament reservoir.

       5. The medicament infusion system of claim 1 , wherein the first needle is recessed within the first inlet connector such that the first inlet connector is configured to reduce the chance that a user contacts the first needle as the first inlet connector is handled.

       6. The medicament infusion system of claim 1 , wherein the second needle is recessed within the second inlet connector such that the second inlet connector is configured to reduce the chance that a user contacts the second needle as the second inlet connector is handled.

       7. The medicament infusion system of claim 1 , further comprising the first medicament reservoir.

       8. The medicament infusion system of claim 7 , further comprising the second medicament reservoir.

       9. The medicament infusion system of claim 1 , further comprising:
 a base set comprising:
 a first base unit having a first port and a first adhesive portion, the first base unit comprising a first piercing element configured to deliver the first medicament to the patient, the first adhesive portion configured to adhere the first base unit to the patient; and
 a second base unit having a second port, the second base unit comprising a second adhesive portion configured to adhere the second base unit to the patient;

 an infusion connector set comprising:
 a first infusion connector configured to reversibly couple to the first base unit via the first port and to provide a first fluid path from the first medicament reservoir to the first port of the first base; and
 a second infusion connector configured to reversibly couple to the second base unit;

 wherein the first base unit comprises a first guide member that prevents engagement of the second infusion connector to the first base unit;
 wherein the second base unit comprises a second guide member that prevents engagement of the first infusion connector to the second base unit.

       10. The medicament infusion set of claim 9 , wherein the first infusion connector comprises a flared-out edge that provides an ergonomic finger hold configured to allow the first infusion connector to be grasped by a user.

       11. The medicament infusion system of claim 1 , wherein the second reservoir set provides a continuous fluid path from the second medicament reservoir through the second inlet connector.

       12. A medicament infusion set comprising:
 a first reservoir set comprising:
 a first inlet connector configured to engage a first medicament reservoir comprising a first medicament reservoir port and a first medicament, the first inlet connector comprising:
 a first needle configured to allow access to the first medicament;
 a first engaging member that is configured to engage a portion of the first medicament reservoir to attach the first inlet connector to the first medicament reservoir;
 a first check valve configured to allow the first medicament to flow from the first medicament reservoir in response to a first threshold fluid pressure being applied to the first medicament;
 wherein the first threshold fluid pressure is greater than a gravitationally induced hydrostatic pressure caused by placing the first reservoir set above an infusion site of the patient; and
 a first guiding element configured to fit within a coinciding first guiding aperture of a first medicament reservoir receptacle of a pump housing of a pump; and

 a second reservoir set comprising:
 a second inlet connector configured to engage a second medicament reservoir comprising a second medicament reservoir port and a second medicament, the second inlet connector comprising:
 a second needle configured to allow access to the second medicament;
 a second engaging member configured to engage a portion of the second medicament reservoir to attach the second inlet connector to the second medicament reservoir; and
 a second guiding element configured to fit within a coinciding second guiding aperture of a second medicament reservoir receptacle of the pump housing of the pump.

       13. The medicament infusion set of claim 12 , wherein the medicament infusion set comprises the second medicament reservoir.

       14. The medicament infusion set of claim 12 , wherein the second reservoir set provides a continuous fluid path from the second medicament reservoir through the second inlet connector.
