Abstract

Pharmaceutical compositions are disclosed that includes a therapeutically effective amount of a purified viable Gram negative bacteria and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The pharmaceutical compositions are formulated for topical administration. Methods of treating atopic dermatitis using these pharmaceutical compositions are also disclosed.

We claim: 
     
       1. A pharmaceutical composition, wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises:
 at least one strain of  Roseomonas mucosa , wherein the at least one strain of  Roseomonas mucosa  is a viable, skin commensal organism present in an amount sufficient for reducing growth of  Staphylococcus aureus  on skin of a subject in need thereof, and wherein the pharmaceutical composition is formulated in a topical dosage form selected from the group consisting of a cream, gel, foam, ointment, and a lotion. 
 
     
     
       2. The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one strain of  Roseomonas mucosa  comprises at least two strains of  Roseomonas mucosa.    
     
     
       3. The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one strain of  Roseomonas mucosa  comprises three strains of  Roseomonas mucosa.    
     
     
       4. The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 
     
     
       5. The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 4 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier comprises sucrose. 
     
     
       6. The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one strain of  Roseomonas mucosa  is purified. 
     
     
       7. The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one strain of  Roseomonas mucosa  is present in an amount of 10 4  to 10 12  colony forming units. 
     
     
       8. The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is contained within a spray bottle.
