Abstract

A medical fixation device having a device attachment portion, a compression bearing portion and a barb portion. The barb portion is separated from a device constraining means by the incorporation of the compression bearing portion.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

       1. An implantable medical device comprising:
 a body portion defining a circumference;
 at least two flexible anchors arranged on an exterior surface of the body portion and each of the at least two flexible anchors including a barb portion configured to penetrate a tissue wall of a targeted site and a compression bearing portion configured to deflect the barb portion relative to the exterior surface of the body portion in response to transition of the body portion between an expanded configuration and a constrained configuration; and
 the compression bearing portion having an apex oriented radially outward relative to the circumference of the body portion.

       2. The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the compression bearing portion is configured to effect separation of the barb portion relative to the exterior surface of the body portion.

       3. The implantable device of claim 1 , wherein the compression bearing portion is configured to deflect the barb portion relative to the exterior surface of the body portion in response to contact with a constraining member.

       4. The implantable device of claim 3 , wherein the compression bearing portion is configured to move the barb portion of the at least anchors inwardly in response to contact with the constraining member.

       5. The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the barb portion does not contact the exterior surface of the body portion in the constrained configuration.

       6. The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the compression bearing portion includes a curvature directing the barb portion outwardly relative to the exterior surface of the body portion.

       7. The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the at least two anchors are integral with the body portion.

       8. The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the body portion includes a stent portion and a graft portion.

       9. The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the compression bearing portion includes a curvature in the expanded configuration and the constrained configuration.

       10. An implantable medical device comprising:
 a body portion;
 at least two flexible anchors arranged on an exterior surface of the body portion and each of the at least two flexible anchors including a barb portion configured to penetrate a tissue wall of a targeted site and a compression bearing portion configured to deflect the barb portion relative to the exterior surface of the body portion in response to transition of the body portion between an expanded configuration and a constrained configuration; and
 the compression bearing portion defining an apex extending outward in a direction generally perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the body portion in the constrained configuration.

       11. The implantable medical device of claim 10 , wherein the compression bearing portion is configured to effect separation of the barb portion relative to the exterior surface of the body portion.

       12. The implantable device of claim 10 , wherein the compression bearing portion is configured to deflect the barb portion relative to the exterior surface of the body portion in response to contact with a constraining member.

       13. The implantable device of claim 12 , wherein the compression bearing portion is configured to move the barb portion of the at least anchors inwardly in response to contact with the constraining member.

       14. The implantable medical device of claim 10 , wherein the barb portion does not contact the exterior surface of the body portion in the constrained configuration.

       15. The implantable medical device of claim 10 , wherein the compression bearing portion includes a curvature directing the barb portion outwardly relative to the exterior surface of the body portion.

       16. The implantable medical device of claim 10 , wherein the at least two anchors are integral with the body portion.

       17. The implantable medical device of claim 10 , wherein the body portion includes a stent portion and a graft portion.

       18. The implantable medical device of claim 10 , wherein the compression bearing portion includes a curvature in the expanded configuration and the constrained configuration.

       19. An implantable medical device comprising:
 a body portion defining a circumference;
 at least two flexible anchors arranged on an exterior surface of the body portion and each of the at least two flexible anchors including a barb portion configured to penetrate a tissue wall of a targeted site and a compression bearing portion configured to deflect the barb portion relative to the exterior surface of the body portion in response to transition of the body portion between an expanded configuration and a constrained configuration; and
 the compression bearing portion defining a raised portion extending radially outward relative to the exterior surface of the body portion in the constrained configuration.

       20. The implantable medical device of claim 19 , wherein the compression bearing portion is configured to effect separation of the barb portion relative to the exterior surface of the body portion.

       21. The implantable device of claim 19 , wherein the compression bearing portion is configured to deflect the barb portion relative to the exterior surface of the body portion in response to contact with a constraining member.

       22. The implantable device of claim 21 , wherein the compression bearing portion is configured to move the barb portion of the at least anchors inwardly in response to contact with the constraining member.

       23. The implantable medical device of claim 19 , wherein the barb portion does not contact the exterior surface of the body portion in the constrained configuration.

       24. The implantable medical device of claim 19 , wherein the compression bearing portion includes a curvature directing the barb portion outwardly relative to the exterior surface of the body portion.
