Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a communication method and system for converging a 5th-Generation (5G) communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a 4th-Generation (4G) system with a technology for Internet of Things (IoT). The present disclosure may be applied to intelligent services based on the 5G communication technology and the IoT-related technology, such as smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car, connected car, health care, digital education, smart retail, security and safety services. And a method, user equipment (UE) and telecommunication network are provided. The method of managing short message service (SMS) functionality in a UE operable with a telecommunication network includes informing, by the network, the of a change in an SMS subscription status for the UE.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

       1. A method by an access and mobility management function (AMF) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
 determining whether a user equipment (UE) configuration change is necessary;
generating a configuration update command including information associated with the UE configuration based on the determination; and
transmitting, to a UE, the configuration update command including the information associated with the UE configuration,
wherein the information associated with the UE configuration is associated with a short message service (SMS) indication, the SMS indication being to indicate that an ability for the UE to use the SMS over a non-access stratum (NAS) has changed.

       2. The method of claim 1 , wherein a registration procedure for the UE is performed based on the information.

       3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving, a Unified Data Management (UDM), a message associated with subscriber data.

       4. A method by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
receiving, from an access and mobility management function (AMF), a configuration update command including information associated with a UE configuration in case that the UE configuration change is necessary,
wherein the configuration update command is generated by the AMF, and
wherein the information associated with the UE configuration is associated with a short message service (SMS) indication, the SMS indication being to indicate that an ability for the UE to use the SMS over a non-access stratum (NAS) has changed.

       5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:
identifying that a status of an SMS subscription for the UE is changed; and
initiating a registration procedure to update the status of the SMS subscription.

       6. The method of claim 4 , wherein a message associated with subscriber data is transmitted from a Unified Data Management (UDM) to the AMF.

       7. An access and mobility management function (AMF) in a wireless communication system, the AMF comprising:
 a transceiver; and
a controller coupled the transceiver and configured to:
 determine whether a user equipment (UE) configuration change is necessary;
generate a configuration update command including information associated with the UE configuration based on the determination; and
transmit, to a UE, the configuration update command including the information associated with the UE configuration,

wherein the information associated with the UE configuration is associated with a short message service (SMS) indication, the SMS indication being to indicate that an ability for the UE to use the SMS over a non-access stratum (NAS) has changed.

       8. The AMF of claim 7 , wherein a registration procedure for the UE is performed based on the information.

       9. The AMF of claim 7 , wherein the controller is further configured to:
receive, a Unified Data Management (UDM), a message associated with subscriber data.

       10. A user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the UE comprising:
 a transceiver; and
a controller coupled the transceiver and configured to:
receive, from an access and mobility management function (AMF), a configuration update command including information associated with a UE configuration in case that the UE configuration change is necessary,

wherein the configuration update command is generated by the AMF, and
wherein the information associated with the UE configuration is associated with a short message service (SMS) indication, the SMS indication being to indicate that an ability for the UE to use the SMS over a non-access stratum (NAS) has changed.

       11. The UE of claim 10 , wherein the controller is further configured to:
identify that a status of an SMS subscription for the UE is changed, and
initiate a registration procedure to update the status of the SMS subscription.

       12. The UE of claim 10 , wherein a message associated with subscriber data is transmitted from a Unified Data Management (UDM) to the AMF.
