Abstract
A printing apparatus includes a first discharge path that discharges a sheet and a second discharge path different from the first discharge path. An angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the second discharge path and a conveyance direction of a conveyance roller is less than an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the first discharge path and the conveyance direction of the conveyance roller. The printing apparatus includes a control unit that discharges the sheet on which the image is printed using the second discharge path even in a case where an instruction to print an image indicates discharging the sheet to the first discharge path, if the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller is a sheet having a thickness equal to or greater than a predetermined value.

1. A printing apparatus comprising:
a conveyance roller configured to convey a sheet;
a print head configured to print an image on the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller;
a first discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head;
a second discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head, the second discharge path being different from the first discharge path; and
a control unit configured to perform control to discharge the sheet in the first discharge path or the second discharge path, wherein
an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the second discharge path and a conveyance direction of the conveyance roller is less than an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the first discharge path and the conveyance direction of the conveyance roller, and
even in a case where an instruction to print an image indicates discharging the sheet to the first discharge path, if the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller is a sheet having a thickness equal to or greater than a predetermined value, the control unit discharges the sheet on which the image is printed using the second discharge path.
2. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the instruction to print the image is an instruction sent from a host apparatus that instructs the printing apparatus to perform printing.
3. The printing apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein a discharge destination, that is, whether to discharge the printed sheet in the first discharge path or discharge the printed sheet in the second discharge path, can be set in an operation unit of the printing apparatus.
4. The printing apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein the control unit is configured to perform control to give priority to a discharge destination included in the instruction sent from the host apparatus over the discharge destination set in the operation unit of the printing apparatus, and
in a case where the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller is a sheet having a thickness equal to or greater than the predetermined value, even if the discharge destination included in the instruction sent from the host apparatus indicates discharging the sheet to the first discharge path, the sheet on which the image is printed is discharged using the second discharge path.
5. The printing apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein
in a case where information indicating a kind of the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller is a sheet having a thickness equal to or greater than the predetermined value, the first discharge path cannot be set in the operation unit.
6. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising
a discharge switching flapper that switches between the first discharge path and the second discharge path,
wherein the discharge switching flapper moves to a position where the sheet is discharged to the first discharge path or the second discharge path.
7. The printing apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the discharge switching flapper moves to a position to which the discharge switching flapper needs to move after the control unit determines a discharge path.
8. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein
a discharge roller is arranged in the first discharge path and is not arranged in the second discharge path.
9. A printing apparatus comprising:
a conveyance roller configured to convey a sheet;
a print head configured to print an image on the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller;
a first discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head;
a second discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head, the second discharge path being different from the first discharge path; and
a control unit configured to perform control to discharge the sheet in the first discharge path or the second discharge path, wherein
an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the second discharge path and a conveyance direction of the conveyance roller is less than an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the first discharge path and the conveyance direction of the conveyance roller, and
in a case where an instruction to print an image is an instruction to adjust a print state of the image to be printed by the print head, the control unit discharges the sheet using the second discharge path.
10. The printing apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein even in a case where the instruction to print the image indicates discharging the sheet to the first discharge path or a case where a discharge destination set in an operation unit of the printing apparatus is the first discharge path, if the instruction to print the image is the instruction to adjust the print state of the image to be printed by the print head, the control unit discharges the sheet using the second discharge path.
11. A printing apparatus comprising:
a conveyance roller configured to convey a sheet;
a print head configured to print an image on the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller;
a first discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head;
a second discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head, the second discharge path being different from the first discharge path; and
a control unit configured to perform control to discharge the sheet in the first discharge path or the second discharge path, wherein
an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the second discharge path and a conveyance direction of the conveyance roller is less than an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the first discharge path and the conveyance direction of the conveyance roller, and
in a case where an instruction to print an image is an instruction to adjust an amount of conveyance of the conveyance roller in the first discharge path, the control unit discharges the sheet to the first discharge path, and in a case where the instruction is an instruction to adjust an amount of conveyance of the conveyance roller in the second discharge path, the control unit discharges the sheet to the second discharge path.
12. A method of controlling a printing apparatus, the printing apparatus comprising:
a conveyance roller configured to convey a sheet;
a print head configured to print an image on the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller;
a first discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head;
a second discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head, the second discharge path being different from the first discharge path; and
a control unit configured to perform control to discharge the sheet in the first discharge path or the second discharge path, wherein
an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the second discharge path and a conveyance direction of the conveyance roller is less than an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the first discharge path and the conveyance direction of the conveyance roller, the method comprising:
receiving an instruction to print an image; and
even in a case where the received instruction indicates discharging the sheet to the first discharge path, if the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller is a sheet having a thickness equal to or greater than a predetermined value, discharging the sheet on which the image is printed using the second discharge path.
13. A method of controlling a printing apparatus, the printing apparatus comprising:
a conveyance roller configured to convey a sheet;
a print head configured to print an image on the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller;
a first discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head;
a second discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head, the second discharge path being different from the first discharge path; and
a control unit configured to perform control to discharge the sheet in the first discharge path or the second discharge path, wherein
an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the second discharge path and a conveyance direction of the conveyance roller is less than an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the first discharge path and the conveyance direction of the conveyance roller, the method comprising:
obtaining an instruction to print an image; and
in a case where the obtained instruction is an instruction to adjust a print state of the image to be printed by the print head, discharging the sheet using the second discharge path.
14. A method of controlling a printing apparatus, the printing apparatus comprising:
a conveyance roller configured to convey a sheet;
a print head configured to print an image on the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller;
a first discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head;
a second discharge path configured to discharge the sheet printed with the print head, the second discharge path being different from the first discharge path; and
a control unit configured to perform control to discharge the sheet in the first discharge path or the second discharge path, wherein
an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the second discharge path and a conveyance direction of the conveyance roller is less than an angle difference between a direction in which the sheet is discharged in the first discharge path and the conveyance direction of the conveyance roller, the method comprising:
obtaining an instruction to print an image; and
in a case where the obtained instruction is an instruction to adjust an amount of conveyance of the conveyance roller in the first discharge path, discharging the sheet to the first discharge path, and in a case where the instruction is an instruction to adjust an amount of conveyance of the conveyance roller in the second discharge path, discharging the sheet to the second discharge path.Cited by (0)
