Abstract

Various embodiments relate to power reset. A system may include a first power source, a second power source, and a load coupled to the first power source and the second power source. The system may also include a modem configured to generate a signal responsive to receipt of a control signal. Further, the system may include circuitry coupled to the modem and configured to, responsive to receipt of the signal, open a first switch to disconnect the load from the first power source and open a second switch to disconnect the load from the second power source. Associated methods and mobile units are also disclosed.

What is claimed:

       1. A system, comprising:
 a first power source;
 a second power source;
 a load coupled to the first power source and the second power source;
 a modem configured to generate a signal responsive to an event; and
 circuitry coupled to the modem and the load, the circuitry comprising a number of transistors and at least one switch coupled between the modem and the number of transistors, the circuitry configured to:
 responsive to receipt of the signal, disconnect the load from the first power source and the second power source; and
 reconnect the load to each of the first power source and the second power source after a time period.

       2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the load comprises a controller.

       3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first power source comprises one or more primary batteries and the second power source comprises one or more backup batteries.

       4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the load is coupled to and configured to provide power to the modem.

       5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the modem is configured to generate a signal in a first state in normal operation, wherein the signal comprises a pulse signal having a second, different state.

       6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the signal comprises a pulse signal.

       7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the circuitry includes:
 a first relay including a first switch configured to disconnect the load from the first power source; and
 a second relay including a second switch configured to disconnect the load from the second power source.

       8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the event comprises receipt of a control signal, the system further comprising a device remote from the modem and configured to convey the control signal to the modem.

       9. A method of rebooting a load of a mobile unit, the method comprising:
 conveying a signal from a first location to a modem of the mobile unit positioned at a second, remote location;
 generating, via the modem, a pulse signal;
 responsive to the pulse signal, disconnecting, via circuitry, a load of the mobile unit from at least one battery of the mobile unit; and
 reconnecting, via the circuitry, the load to the at least one battery after a predetermined time period, the circuitry comprising at least one switch and a number of transistors coupled between the modem and the at least one switch.

       10. The method of claim 9 , wherein conveying the signal from the first location to the modem of the mobile unit comprises conveying the signal from the first location to the modem of a mobile security unit including a least one camera, at least one speaker, and at least one light.

       11. The method of claim 9 , wherein disconnecting the load comprises opening at least one switch of at least one relay positioned between the load and the at least one battery.

       12. The method of claim 9 , wherein opening at least one switch comprises:
 opening a first switch of a first relay positioned between the load and a first power source; and
 opening a second switch of a second relay positioned between the load and a second power source.

       13. The method of claim 9 , wherein disconnecting the load comprises disconnecting the load from a primary battery and a backup battery of the mobile unit.

       14. The method of claim 9 , wherein generating the pulse signal comprises generating a pulse signal having a first state, wherein the modem is configured to generate a signal having a second, different state in a normal operating condition.

       15. A mobile unit, comprising:
 a trailer;
 at least one power source coupled to the trailer;
 a load coupled to the at least one power source;
 a modem configured to generate a pulse signal; and
 circuitry coupled to the modem and the load and configured to, responsive to receipt of the pulse signal, open at least one switch to disconnect the load from the at least one power source, the circuitry comprising a number of transistors coupled between the modem and the at least one switch.

       16. The mobile unit of claim 15 , wherein the at least one power source includes a primary power source and a backup power source.

       17. The mobile unit of claim 16 , further comprising:
 a storage box coupled to the trailer and including the primary power source;
 a mast coupled to the trailer and having a first end proximate the storage box; and
 a head unit coupled to a second end of the mast and including the load, the backup power source, the modem, and the circuitry.

       18. The mobile unit of claim 15 , wherein the load comprises a controller.
