Method for shock attenuation device using a pivot mechanism
Abstract
A method for forming a weapon accessory mounting device to attach to a projectile firing weapon is disclosed. A flexure for receiving a body of the weapon accessory is formed. A pivot portion is formed at a first end of the flexure to attach the flexure to the weapon at a first attachment region. A second attachment portion is formed at a second end of the flexure to attach the flexure to the weapon at a second attachment region. A first aperture is formed in the pivot portion configured to receive a pivot pin. A second aperture in the weapon accessory body receives the pivot pin at a weapon accessory body first end to attach the weapon accessory body first end to the pivot portion. The pivot portion is configured to convert at least a portion of energy of a weapon shock recoil from translational energy to rotational energy.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1. A weapon accessory mounting device, comprising:
a weapon bracket configured to attach to a weapon;
a first attachment region at a first side of the weapon bracket, configured to couple to a weapon accessory;
a second attachment region at a second side of the weapon bracket, configured to couple to the weapon accessory;
a first flexure at the first side of the weapon bracket, configured to deform rotationally in response to a projectile being fired by the weapon; and
a first pivot at the first flexure, wherein the first attachment region comprises the first pivot.
2. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 1 , further comprising:
a second flexure at the second side of the weapon bracket; and
a second pivot at the second flexure, wherein the second attachment region comprises the second pivot.
3. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the weapon bracket is configured to attach to a barrel of the weapon.
4. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the weapon bracket is configured to attach to a rail of the weapon.
5. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 1 , wherein:
an axis of the first pivot is arranged in a direction normal to a direction in which the weapon is configured to fire the projectile.
6. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 5 , further comprising a first pivot pin positioned along the axis of the first pivot, configured to attach the weapon accessory to the weapon bracket at the first attachment region.
7. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 6 , wherein the weapon bracket is configured to rotate about the first pivot pin.
8. A weapon accessory mounting device, comprising:
a weapon bracket, configured to attach to a weapon;
a first attachment region at a first side of the weapon bracket, configured to couple to a weapon accessory;
a second attachment region at a second side of the weapon bracket, configured to couple to the weapon accessory;
a first flexure at the first side of the weapon bracket, configured to deform at least partially in a direction normal to a direction in which the weapon is configured to fire a projectile; and
a first pivot at the first flexure, wherein the first attachment region comprises the first pivot.
9. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 8 , further comprising:
a second flexure at the second side of the weapon bracket; and
a second pivot at the second flexure, wherein the second attachment region comprises the second pivot.
10. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 8 , wherein the weapon bracket is configured to attach to a barrel of the weapon.
11. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 8 , wherein the weapon bracket is configured to attach to a rail of the weapon.
12. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 8 , wherein an axis of the first pivot is arranged in a direction normal to the direction in which the weapon is configured to fire a projectile.
13. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 12 , further comprising a first pivot pin positioned along the axis of the first pivot, configured to attach the weapon accessory to the weapon bracket at the first attachment region.
14. The weapon accessory mounting device of claim 13 , wherein the weapon bracket is configured to rotate about the first pivot pin.
15. A weapon accessory system, comprising:
a weapon bracket, configured to attach to a weapon:
a first flexure at a first side of the weapon bracket, configured to deform at least partially in a direction normal to a direction in which the weapon is configured to fire a projectile;
a first pivot at the first flexure;
a first attachment region at the first side of the weapon bracket, the first attachment region comprising the first pivot; and
a second attachment region at a second side of the weapon bracket;
a weapon accessory body coupled to the weapon bracket, comprising:
a first body location hole aligned with the first attachment region; and
a second body location hole aligned with the second attachment region; and
a first pivot pin coupling the weapon accessory body to the weapon bracket at the first attachment region through the first body location hole.
16. The weapon accessory system of claim 15 , further comprising:
a second flexure at the second side of the weapon bracket; and
a second pivot at the second flexure.
17. The weapon accessory system of claim 15 , wherein the weapon bracket is configured to attach to a barrel of the weapon.
18. The weapon accessory system of claim 15 , wherein the weapon bracket is configured to attach to a rail of the weapon.
19. The weapon accessory system of claim 15 , wherein an axis of the first pivot is arranged in a direction normal to a projectile direction.
20. The weapon accessory system of claim 19 , wherein the first pivot pin is positioned along the axis of the first pivot and the weapon bracket is configured to rotate about the first pivot pin.Cited by (0)
