What is claimed is:

       1. A media device comprising:
 a communication interface configured to communicate with a communication network to access a license server system;
 an input device through which user input is provided;
 a hardware processor, in communication with the communication interface and the input device, that is configured to:
 transmit a request for a media content license pertaining to a media content item for presentation on a display of the media device;
 responsive to the request, receive, from the license server system, one or more keys associated with the media content item and a license comprising a policy including a limited license duration and a renewal request interval;
 decrypt the media content item using the one or more keys;
 transmit a second request for a media content license renewal pertaining to the media content item within the renewal request interval; and
 responsive to the second request, receive, from the license server system, a license renewal including an adjusted renewal request interval that differs from the renewal request interval.

       2. The media device of claim 1 , wherein the request for the media content license is associated with a user account.

       3. The media device of claim 1 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to:
 transmit, at a time within the renewal request interval, a request for a license renewal pertaining to the media content item being presented on the display of the media device; and
 receive the license renewal based on media session concurrency across a plurality of media devices associated with a user account.

       4. The media device of claim 3 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to determine media session concurrency by querying a record of license renewals issued during a given time period for the user account and wherein the license renewal is received based on the record of license renewals associated with the user account.

       5. The media device of claim 4 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to receive a modification to at least one of the limited license duration and the renewal request interval.

       6. The media device of claim 5 , wherein the modification is performed based on a review of the record of license renewals issued during the given time period for the user account and based on a determination that the record of license renewals indicates suppression of license renewal requests by the plurality of media devices associated with the user account.

       7. The media device of claim 5 , wherein the modification is performed based on a detected server outage.

       8. The media device of claim 1 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to receive an indication that the limited license duration associated with a license renewal has been set to a zero duration.

       9. The media device of claim 1 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to receive the license of the limited license duration for the media content item while concurrently receiving an indication that a previously issued license within the record has been discontinued.

       10. The media device of claim 1 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to receive an enforcement mode from a plurality of enforcement modes that has been applied to a user account, wherein the enforcement mode is determined based on a review of a record of license renewals associated with the user account.

       11. The media device of claim 1 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to receive a list of a plurality of license servers for handling the request for a license renewal, wherein a media application executing on the media device transmits the request for the media content license to a first license server of the plurality of license servers and, upon detecting that the first license server is unavailable and prior to the expiration of the license, transmits the request to a second license server of the plurality of license servers until the license renewal for the media content license is received.

       12. The media device of claim 1 , wherein the license is received based on a count of a number of license renewals associated with a user account within a given time period.

       13. The media device of claim 1 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to receive an indication that an emergency renewal mode has been entered in which the license server system automatically issues the license in response to determining that a record of license renewals is inaccessible.

       14. A method for concurrency detection and enforcement, the method comprising:
 transmitting, by a media device, a request for a media content license pertaining to a media content item for presentation on a display of the media device, wherein the media device comprises:
 a communication interface configured to communicate with a communication network to access a license server system;
 an input device through which user input is provided; and
 a hardware processing system in communication with the communication interface and the input device;

 responsive to the request, receiving, by the media device from the license server system, one or more keys associated with the media content item and a license comprising a policy including a limited license duration and a renewal request interval;
 decrypting, by the media device, the media content item using the one or more keys;
 transmitting, by the media device, a second request for a media content license renewal pertaining to the media content item within the renewal request interval; and
 responsive to the second request, receiving, by the media device from the license server system, a license renewal including an adjusted renewal request interval that differs from the renewal request interval.

       15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the request for the media content license is associated with a user account.

       16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the method further comprises:
