Gaming system and method for providing poker games with alternative gaming presentations

Abstract

Gaming systems that determine a total award based on a play of a card game and a play of a supplemental game and then display the determined total award via an alternative gaming presentation different from the play of the card game and the play of the supplemental game.

The invention is claimed as follows: 
     
       1. A method of operating a gaming system, the method comprising:
 determining, by a processor, a first award associated with a displayed play of a card game, 
 determining, by the processor, a second award associated with a displayed play of a non-card game, 
 determining, by the processor, a total award based on the first award associated with the displayed play of the card game and the determined second award associated with the displayed play of the non-card game, and 
 separate from the displayed play of the card game and the displayed play of the non-card game, displaying, by a display device, an alternative game presentation associated with the determined total award, the alternative game presentation being different from the card game and different from the non-card game. 
 
     
     
       2. The method of  claim 1 , further comprising simultaneously displaying, by the display device, the determined first award associated with the displayed play of the card game, the determined second award associated with the displayed play of the non-card game and the determined total award associated with the alternative game presentation. 
     
     
       3. The method of  claim 1 , further comprising determining, by the processor, the first award associated with the displayed play of the card game based on an employed auto-hold. 
     
     
       4. The method of  claim 1 , further comprising randomly determining, by the processor, the second award from a plurality of second awards. 
     
     
       5. The method of  claim 4 , further comprising determining, by the processor, the plurality of second awards based on the first award associated with the displayed play of the card game. 
     
     
       6. The method of  claim 5 , wherein different pluralities of second awards are associated with different first awards associated with the displayed play of the card game. 
     
     
       7. The method of  claim 1 , wherein the alternative game presentation comprises a plurality of outcomes of a plurality of plays of a game of chance, the plurality of outcomes being collectively associated with the determined total award. 
     
     
       8. The method of  claim 1 , wherein the displayed play of the non-card game comprises an activation of an award generator and the alternative game presentation comprises an activation of a plurality of reels. 
     
     
       9. The method of  claim 1 , wherein responsive to the first award associated with the displayed play of the card game having a value of zero, the determined second award associated with the displayed play of the non-card game has a value of zero. 
     
     
       10. A method of operating a gaming system, the method comprising:
 determining, by a processor, a first award associated with a play of a first game, 
 determining, by the processor, a second award associated with a play of a second game, 
 determining, by the processor, a total award based on the first award associated with the play of the first game and the determined second award associated with the play of the second game, and 
 within a predetermined duration of a conclusion of a displayed play of the first game and a conclusion of a displayed play of the second game, displaying, by a display device, an alternative game presentation associated with the determined total award, the alternative game presentation being different from the first game and different from the second game. 
 
     
     
       11. The method of  claim 10 , further comprising simultaneously displaying, by the display device, the determined first award associated with the play of the first game, the determined second award associated with the play of the second game and the determined total award associated with the alternative game presentation. 
     
     
       12. The method of  claim 10 , further comprising determining, by the processor, the first award associated with the play of the first game based on an employed auto-bold. 
     
     
       13. The method of  claim 10 , further comprising randomly determining, by the processor, the second award from a plurality of second awards. 
     
     
       14. The method of  claim 13 , further comprising determining, by the processor, the plurality of second awards based on the first award associated with the play of the first game. 
     
     
       15. The method of  claim 14 , wherein different pluralities of second awards are associated with different first awards associated with the play of the first game. 
     
     
       16. The method of  claim 10 , wherein the alternative game presentation comprises a plurality of outcomes of a plurality of plays of a game of chance, the plurality of outcomes being collectively associated with the determined total award. 
     
     
       17. The method of  claim 10 , wherein the play of the second game comprises an activation of an award generator and the alternative game presentation comprises an activation of a plurality of reels. 
     
     
       18. The method of  claim 10 , wherein responsive to the first award associated with the play of the first game having a value of zero, the determined second award associated with the play of the second game has a value of zero. 
     
     
       19. A method of operating a gaming system, the method comprising:
 determining, by a processor, a card game outcome associated with a play of a card game, 
 selecting, by the processor and based on the determined card game outcome, an award generator from a plurality of award generators, 
 determining, by the processor, an award in association with an activation of the selected award generator, and 
 separate from the play of the card game and the activation of the selected award generator, displaying, by a display device, an alternative game presentation associated with an award associated with the determined card game outcome and the award determined in association with the activation of the selected award generator. 
 
     
     
       20. The method of  claim 19 , wherein the alternative game presentation is different from the card game and different from the activation of the selected award generator.
