Abstract

A novel maize variety designated X90V909 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof are produced by crossing inbred maize varieties. Methods for producing a maize plant by crossing hybrid maize variety X90V909 with another maize plant are disclosed. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into X90V909 through backcrossing or genetic transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby are described. Maize variety X90V909, the seed, the plant produced from the seed, and variants, mutants, and minor modifications of maize variety X90V909 are provided. Methods for producing maize varieties derived from maize variety X90V909 and methods of using maize variety X90V909 are disclosed.

Claims

What is claimed is:

       1. A seed of hybrid maize X90V909 produced by crossing a first plant of maize line 1PJBB89 with a second plant of maize line 1PZWP34, wherein representative seeds of the maize lines 1PJBB89 and 1PZWP34 have been deposited under NCMA Accession Numbers 202205177 and 202207022, respectively.

       2. A plant or plant part of hybrid maize X90V909 grown from the seed of claim 1 , wherein the plant part comprises at least one F1 hybrid maize X90V909 cell.

       3. A method of producing the seed of claim 1 , the method comprising crossing a plant of the maize line 1PJBB89 with a plant of the maize line 1PZWP34.

       4. The seed of claim 1 , further comprising a transgene, wherein the transgene is introduced by backcrossing or genetic transformation into the maize line 1PJBB89, the maize line 1PZWP34, or both maize lines 1PJBB89 and 1PZWP34.

       5. A seed of hybrid maize X90V909 further comprising a single locus conversion, wherein a plant grown from the seed comprises a trait conferred by the single locus conversion, wherein the seed is produced by crossing a first plant of maize line 1P JBB89 with a second plant of maize line 1PZWP34, wherein the first plant, the second plant or both further comprise the single locus conversion, and wherein representative seeds of the maize lines 1P JBB89 and 1PZWP34 have been deposited under NCMA Accession Numbers 202205177 and 202207022, respectively, and wherein the seed produces a plant having otherwise all the physiological and morphological characteristics of hybrid maize X90V909 when grown under the same environmental conditions.

       6. The hybrid maize X90V909 seed of claim 4 , wherein the transgene confers a property selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide tolerance, insect resistance, disease resistance, waxy starch, modified fatty acid metabolism, modified phytic acid metabolism, modified carbohydrate metabolism and modified protein metabolism.

       7. The hybrid maize X90V909 seed of claim 4 , further comprising a seed treatment on the surface of the seed.

       8. A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the hybrid maize X90V909 seed of claim 4 .

       9. A plant or plant part grown from the hybrid maize X90V909 seed of claim 4 , the plant part comprising at least one F1 hybrid maize X90V909 cell further comprising the transgene.

       10. A method of producing a commodity plant product comprising starch, syrup, silage, fat or protein, the method comprising producing the commodity plant product from the plant or plant part of claim 9 .

       11. A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising applying plant breeding techniques to the plant or plant part of claim 9 to produce the second maize plant.

       12. A method for producing a hybrid maize X90V909 seed further comprising fewer than six locus conversions, the method comprising crossing a first plant of maize line 1 PJBB89 with a second plant of maize line 1PZWP34, representative seeds of the maize lines 1PJBB89 and 1PZWP34 having been deposited under NCMA Accession Numbers 202205177 and 202207022, respectively, wherein at least one of the maize lines 1PJBB89 and 1 PZWP34 further comprises the fewer than six locus conversions.

       13. An F1hybrid maize X90V909 seed further comprising fewer than six locus conversions a locus conversion produced by the method of claim 12 , wherein the seed produces a plant expressing the traits conferred by the fewer than six locus conversions locus conversion and comprising otherwise all the physiological and morphological characteristics of hybrid maize X90V909 when grown under the same environmental conditions.

       14. The seed of claim 13 , further comprising a seed treatment on the surface of the seed.

       15. The seed of claim 13 , wherein the fewer than six locus conversions confer a property selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide tolerance, insect resistance, disease resistance, waxy starch, modified fatty acid metabolism, modified phytic acid metabolism, modified carbohydrate metabolism and modified protein metabolism.
