Systems and methods for extracting data views from heterogeneous sources

Abstract

One embodiment includes a method to be performed by a computing system. The method includes receiving first data comprising one or more first data fields associated with corresponding first values, receiving second data comprising one or more second data fields associated with corresponding second values, wherein at least one of the one or more second data fields corresponds to at least one of the one or more first data fields. The method further includes associating one or more of the one or more first data fields and one or more of the one or more second data fields to one or more standard data fields and generating a data view based on the one or more standard data fields.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. A computing system comprising:
 at least one processor; 
 at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to:
 receive, via the Internet from a first device operating on a first local area network, first data corresponding to a first event associated with the first device, wherein the first data comprises one or more first data fields having corresponding first values; 
 receive, via the Internet from a second device operating on a second local area network different from the first local area network, second data corresponding to a second event associated with the second device, the second event different from the first event, wherein the second data comprises one or more second data fields having corresponding second values, and wherein at least one second data field in the one or more second data fields corresponds to at least one first data field in the one or more first data fields; 
 associate, by the computing system, one or more of the one or more first data fields and one or more of the one or more second data fields to one or more standard data fields, wherein the at least one second data field and the at least one first data field are associated with a particular standard data field in the one or more standard data fields; 
 receive, via the Internet from a computing device operating on a third local area network, an indication of a user request to generate a data view based on the first data and the second data; 
 based on the received indication of the user request, generate a data view based on the one or more standard data fields, wherein the data view comprises a representation corresponding to the particular standard data field that comprises: (i) a corresponding first value of the at least one first data field, and (ii) a corresponding second value of the at least one second data field; and 
 transmit, via the Internet to the computing device, data that causes the computing device to display the generated data view. 
 
 
     
     
       2. The computing system of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the first device is associated with a first system of devices; and 
 the second device is associated with a second system of devices different from the first system of devices. 
 
     
     
       3. The computing system of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the first system of devices is connected to the first local area network; and 
 the second system of devices is connected to the second local area network. 
 
     
     
       4. The computing system of  claim 1 , wherein at least one first data field in the one or more first data fields is different than at least one second data field in the one or more second data fields. 
     
     
       5. The computing system of  claim 1 , wherein the first device and the second device are different types of devices. 
     
     
       6. The computing system of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the first device operates a first software version of an application; and 
 the second device operates a second software version of the application different than the first software version of the application. 
 
     
     
       7. The computing system of  claim 1 , wherein the corresponding first value and the corresponding second value are different. 
     
     
       8. The computing system of  claim 1 , wherein the corresponding first value is associated with an attribute and the corresponding second value is also associated with the attribute. 
     
     
       9. The computing system of  claim 8 , wherein the at least one first data field and the at least one second data field correspond to the attribute. 
     
     
       10. The computing system of  claim 8 , wherein the particular standard data field corresponds to the attribute. 
     
     
       11. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions executable by one or more processors to cause a computing system to perform functions comprising:
 receiving, via the Internet from a first device operating on a first local area network, first data corresponding to a first event associated with the first device, wherein the first data comprises one or more first data fields having corresponding first values; 
 receiving, via the Internet from a second device operating on a second local area network different from the first local area network, second data corresponding to a second event associated with the second device, the second event different from the first event, wherein the second data comprises one or more second data fields having corresponding second values, and wherein at least one second data field in the one or more second data fields corresponds to at least one first data field in the one or more first data fields; 
 associating, by the computing system, one or more of the one or more first data fields and one or more of the one or more second data fields to one or more standard data fields, wherein the at least one second data field and the at least one first data field are associated with a particular standard data field in the one or more standard data fields; 
 receiving, via the Internet from a computing device operating on a third local area network different from the first and second local area networks, an indication of a user request to generate a data view based on the first data and the second data; 
 based on the received indication of the user request, generating a data view based on the one or more standard data fields, wherein the data view comprises a representation corresponding to the particular standard data field that comprises: (i) a corresponding first value of the at least one first data field, and (ii) a corresponding second value of the at least one second data field; and 
 transmitting, via the Internet to the computing device, data that causes the computing device to display the generated data view. 
 
     
     
       12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein:
 the first device is associated with a first system of devices; and 
 the second device is associated with a second system of devices different from the first system of devices. 
 
     
     
       13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 12 , wherein:
 the first system of devices is connected to the first local area network; and 
 the second system of devices is connected to the second local area network. 
 
     
     
       14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein at least one first data field in the one or more first data fields is different than at least one second data field in the one or more second data fields. 
     
     
       15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein the first device and the second device are different types of devices. 
     
     
       16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein:
 the first device operates a first software version of an application; and 
 the second device operates a second software version of the application different than the first software version of the application. 
 
     
     
       17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein the corresponding first value and the corresponding second value are different. 
     
     
       18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein the corresponding first value is associated with an attribute and the corresponding second value is also associated with the attribute. 
     
     
       19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 18 , wherein the at least one first data field and the at least one second data field correspond to the attribute. 
     
     
       20. A method to be performed by a computing system, the method comprising:
 receiving, via the Internet from a first device operating on a first local area network, first data corresponding to a first event associated with the first device, wherein the first data comprises one or more first data fields having corresponding first values; 
 receiving, via the Internet from a second device operating on a second local area network different from the first local area network, second data corresponding to a second event associated with the second device, the second event different from the first event, wherein the second data comprises one or more second data fields having corresponding second values, and wherein at least one second data field in the one or more second data fields corresponds to at least one first data field in the one or more first data fields; 
 associating, by the computing system, one or more of the one or more first data fields and one or more of the one or more second data fields to one or more standard data fields, wherein the at least one second data field and the at least one first data field are associated with a particular standard data field in the one or more standard data fields; 
 receiving, via the Internet from a computing device operating on a third local area network different from the first and second local area networks, an indication of a user request to generate a data view based on the first data and the second data; 
 based on the received indication of the user request, generating a data view based on the one or more standard data fields, wherein the data view comprises a representation corresponding to the particular standard data field that comprises: (i) a corresponding first value of the at least one first data field, and (ii) a corresponding second value of the at least one second data field; and 
 transmitting, via the Internet to the computing device, data that causes the computing device to display the generated data view.
