Pre-configured templates and queries for storyboards
Abstract
A non-transitory, computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to receive, via a graphical user interface (GUI), a first input indicative of a request to generate a storyboard including one or more visualizations associated with operation of one or more industrial automation systems, wherein the request identifies first and second data from one or more data sources, retrieve the first and second data from the one or more data sources, generate a first dataset based on the first data retrieved from the one or more data sources, generate a second dataset based on the first data retrieved from the one or more data sources, and generate for display via the GUI, the storyboard based on the first dataset and the second dataset.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedThe invention claimed is:
1 . A non-transitory, computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
receiving, via a graphical user interface (GUI), a first input indicative of a selection of a particular storyboard template from a plurality of available storyboard templates; receiving, via the GUI, a second input indicative of a selection of a first connection to a first data source from a plurality of available data sources, wherein the first data source comprises a first database that stores first data associated with operation of an industrial automation system; receiving, via the GUI, a third input indicative of a selection of a second connection to a second data source from the plurality of data sources, wherein the second data source comprises a second database that stores second data associated with the operation of the industrial automation system; retrieving the selected particular storyboard template; retrieving, via one or more database queries identified by the selected particular storyboard template, data from the first and second data sources, wherein the retrieved data constitutes a dataset; and generating for display via the GUI, a storyboard based on the particular storyboard template, wherein the storyboard comprises one or more visualizations generated based on the dataset.
2 . The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
receiving, via the GUI, a fourth input indicative of a request to generate an additional storyboard based on the particular storyboard template or an additional storyboard template from the plurality of available storyboard templates; and generating for display via the GUI, the additional storyboard based on the particular storyboard template or the additional storyboard template, wherein the additional storyboard comprises one or more additional visualizations generated based on the dataset.
3 . The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 2 , wherein the additional storyboard is based on the particular storyboard template.
4 . The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 2 , wherein the additional storyboard is based on the additional storyboard template.
5 . The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 2 , wherein the storyboard and the additional storyboard have one or more visualizations in common.
6 . The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
receiving, via the GUI, a fourth input indicative of a request to modify the storyboard; receiving, via the GUI, a fifth input indicative of a selection of a third correction to a third data source from the plurality of available data sources wherein the third data source comprises a third database that stores third data associated with the operation of the industrial automation system; retrieving, via the one or more database queries identified by the selected particular storyboard template, additional data from the third data source, wherein the retrieved additional data constitutes an additional dataset; and modifying the storyboard, wherein the storyboard comprises one or more visualizations generated based on the dataset and the additional dataset.
7 . The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 6 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising storing a new storyboard template based on the modified storyboard.
8 . The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
receiving, via the GUI, a sixth input indicative of a request to generate a new storyboard based on the new storyboard template; retrieving the data from the first and second data sources; retrieving the additional data from the third data source; and generating for display via the GUI, the new storyboard based on the new storyboard template, the retrieved data, and the retrieved additional data.
9 . A method, comprising:
receiving, via a graphical user interface (GUI), a first input indicative of a selection of a particular storyboard template from a plurality of available storyboard templates; receiving, via the GUI, a second input indicative of a selection of a first connection to a first data source from a plurality of available data sources, wherein the first data source comprises a first database that stores first data associated with operation of an industrial automation system; receiving, via the GUI, a third input indicative of a selection of a second connection to a second data source from the plurality of data sources, wherein the second data source comprises a second database that stores second data associated with the operation of the industrial automation system; retrieving, via one or more processors, the selected particular storyboard template; retrieving, via one or more database queries identified by the selected particular storyboard template, data from the first and second data sources, wherein the retrieved data constitutes a dataset; and generating, via the one or more processors, for display via the GUI, a storyboard based on the particular storyboard template, wherein the storyboard comprises one or more visualizations generated based on the dataset.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the particular storyboard template is configured for a user role.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the particular storyboard template comprises a plant manager template, a supervisor template, a maintenance worker template, a machine operator template, a service technician template, or any combination thereof.
12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the particular storyboard template is configured for information displayed via the storyboard.
13 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the one or more visualizations comprise a time series plot, a bar graph, a stacked bar graph, a pie chart, a score card, a table, or any combination thereof.
14 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the particular storyboard template defines one or more characteristics of one or more visualizations.
15 . A non-transitory, computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
receiving, via a graphical user interface (GUI), a first input indicative of a selection of a particular storyboard template from a plurality of available storyboard templates; receiving, via the GUI, a second input indicative of a selection of a first connection to a first data source from a plurality of available data sources, wherein the first data source comprises a first database that stores first data associated with operation of an industrial automation system; receiving, via the GUI, a third input indicative of a selection of a second connection to a second data source from the plurality of data sources, wherein the second data source comprises a second database that stores second data associated with the operation of the industrial automation system; receiving, via the GUI, a fourth input indicative of one or more modifications to the particular storyboard template; storing in memory a modified version of the particular storyboard template that includes the one or more modifications; retrieving, via one or more database queries identified by the modified particular storyboard template, data from the first and second data sources, wherein the retrieved data constitutes a dataset; and generating for display via the GUI, a storyboard based on the modified particular storyboard template, wherein the storyboard comprises one or more visualizations generated based on the dataset.
16 . The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein one or more modifications comprise adding a chart to the storyboard.
17 . The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein one or more modifications comprise removing a chart from the storyboard.
