Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for preparing functional halosilanes by reacting (A) a cyclic silyl ether having the formula wherein each R is independently selected from a hydrocarbyl group or a halogen-substituted hydrocarbyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, each R′ is independently selected from a group consisting of hydrogen and R and b is 3, 4 or 5; and (B) a halogen-functional compound having a formula selected from wherein G is an m-valent organic group, m is at least 2, X is halogen, R″ is independently selected from hydrocarbyl groups or halogen-substituted hydrocarbyl groups having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, j is an integer having a value of 1 to 3 and k is an integer having a value of 1 to 3.
