Abstract
A two piece packing system usable for packing artifacts, including plate glass, which utilizes a two part trapezoidal body construction, with removable holders, which holder can be rectangular or trapezoidal pyramids, in shape, to protect the artifact and/or restraint an artifact against damage, even in the face of vibration, jarring, and careless handling of the artifact.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
. A packing system for packing flat objects comprising:
b. a body comprising a first end and a second end, a base and a top; and the body comprising at least a two part construction secured together, wherein the two part construction comprises: a first component with a first component base extension a first component side, and a first component top; and a second component with a second component base extension, a second component side, and a second component top and wherein the body is assembled such that the first component base extension is layered on the second component base extension; and the first component top is layered on the second component top, and further wherein the first component side further has a first component interior surface and a first component exterior surface and the second component side further has a second component interior surface and a second component exterior surface; c. a first end cap removably attached to the first end and a second end cap removably attached to the second end; d. a holder engaging opposite ends of an object wherein the holder comprises a slot into which the object can be removably inserted, and wherein the holder has a center portion which extends to and fits against said first component interior side and said second component interior side, and said holder has a first holder extension, second holder extension, third holder extension and a fourth holder extension and wherein each extension is secured to an interior side of said body for securing said holder tightly in place.
. The packing system of claim 1 , wherein the body is in the shape of a trapezoidal pyramid.
. The packing system of claim 1 , wherein said system further comprises at least two base supports and to elevate the base from a surface on which the packing system is disposed.
. The packing system of claim 3 , wherein said base supports extend the length of said base.
. The packing system of claim 3 , wherein said base supports are disposed at various intervals along the length of the base, enabling a forklift to slide between the base supports to easily lift the packing system without damaging the base or the base supports.
. The packing system of claim 2 , wherein the first component and the second component are assembled forming a laminate using a material selected from the group comprising: staples, adhesive, rivets, hinges, tape, bolts, nails, screws, straps, and combinations thereof.
. The packing system of claim 1 , wherein each of said first and second end caps comprise a cap body, a first engagable edge, a second engagable edge, a third engagable edge, a fourth engagable edge, and wherein said engagable edges fold and fit snugly within the first component interior surface and the second component interior surface.
. The packing system of claim 7 , wherein said first and second end caps are trapezoidal pyramids.
. The packing system of claim 1 , wherein a first handle is integral with said first wall and a second handle is integral with said second wall
. The packing system of claim 3 , further comprising a first wheel set and a second wheel set e fixedly attached to said base supports.
. The packing system of claim 1 , wherein said holder can be slidably moved between a first holder first position) and a first holder second position and a second holder can be slidably inserted into said body and moved between a second holder first position and a second holder second position
. The packing system of claim 11 , wherein said holders contain at least two flat objects secured together.
. The packing system of claim 1 , wherein said object is at least one heavy flat plate glass object.
. The packing system of claim 1 , wherein said object is selected from the group comprising plate glass, stained glass, panels, mirrors, artwork, decorative doors, ceramic plates, frames, large plate-like fragile materials, molding, windows, and china.
. The packing system of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises a material selected from the group: cardboard, corrugated paper, light weight high impact plastic, plywood, sheet metal, sheet tin, thin stainless steel, wood, metal/plastic laminate materials, graphite composites, fiberglass, fiberboard or combinations thereof.
. The packing system of claim 11 , wherein said first and second holders each comprise rectangular slots.
. The packing system of claim 11 , wherein said first and second slots can accommodate a 40 inch by 60 inch plate glass object.
. The packing system of claim 1 , wherein the end caps can be disposed over the edges of the body and removably secured.
. The packing system of claim 12 , wherein at least one additional object can be secured to said object with at least one restraining band.
. The packing system of claim 11 , wherein said first and second holders comprise T shaped slots having a vertical and a horizontal opening wherein said object is disposed in the vertical opening and an additional base support is disposed under the object in the horizontal opening.
. The packing system of claim 11 , wherein said first and second holders further comprise a backstop covering at least a portion of said slot opening.
. The packing system of claim 11 further comprising a third holder and wherein the holder, the second holder and the third holder is in the shape of a trapezoidal pyramid.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
