Media player system
Abstract
A method, system, and computer readable medium are provided for the media player system. The present invention provides for associating content with media and integrating the content associated with media into a pane displayed by a media player. The media player system includes a shuttle component to obtain provider data, a first database component to store content and associated media metadata, a user interface to manage the first database user interface, an input component to insert provider data into the first database, and an output component to generate pane and search files. The media player system includes a user interface to display a pane for the media with associated content. The pane includes a media display component to display streamed media and a content display component to display content associated with the streamed media.

1 . A computer system for associating content with media and integrating the content associated with media into a media player, the computer system comprising:
a server input component; a first server database component; and a server output component; wherein:
said server input component is operable to obtain content associated with media and insert said content associated with media into said first server database;
said server database is operable to store content associated with media metadata; and
said server output component is operable to obtain said content associated with media from said first server database and generate content files used to create a pane to display content with associated media.

The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising a server shuttle component, wherein said shuttle component is operable to obtain content associated with media from a provider server and communicate with said input component and wherein said server input component is operable to obtain said content associated with media from said shuttle component.
3 . The computer system of claim 2 , wherein said shuttle component is operable to determine if provider data is available on a provider server.
4 . The computer system of claim 3 , wherein upon determining that said provider data is available, said shuttle component is operable to obtain said provider data and store said provider data on a drop server.
5 . The computer system of claim 4 , wherein said shuttle component is operable to initiate said input component upon storing said provider data on said drop server.
6 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein said provider data is based on a data structure specified by a first Extensible Markup Language Schema.
7 . The computer system of claim 6 , wherein said output component generates said content files based on a data structure specified by said first Extensible Markup Language Schema.
8 . The computer system of claim 7 , further comprising a media player component that is operable to use said content files to create a display pane for said content and associated media.
9 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein said output component is further operable to generate search files used to search said content associated with media.
10 . The computer system of claim 9 , wherein said output component generates said search files using a data structure defined by a second Extensible Markup Language Schema.
11 . The computer system of claim 10 , wherein said output component is further operable to send said search files to a second server search database, wherein said second server search database is used to search for content associated with media.
12 . The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising a user interface component operable to enable a user to view, add, modify, and delete content and associated media information in said first server database.
13 . The computer system of claim 12 , wherein said content and associated media information includes property information about a subject that is associated with said content.
14 . The computer system of claim 12 , wherein said content and associated media information includes provider information.
15 . The computer system of claim 12 , wherein said content and associated media information includes search attributes information.
16 . The computer system of claim 15 , wherein said search attributes information includes a title, a short description, a collection of keywords associated with said content, and associated media.
17 . The computer system of claim 12 , wherein said content information includes content availability dates, content override information, information about links related to said content, and information about displaying said content.
18 . The computer system of claim 12 , wherein said content and associated media information includes information about the media type, the dates the media is available for display, the media bandwidth, the media caption, the media filename, and addresses for media files.
19 . The computer system of claim 12 , wherein said user interface component is further operable to enable the user to specify content that will override the content stored in said first server database.
20 . The computer system of claim 12 , wherein said user interface component is further operable to communicate with said output process to enable the user to initiate said output process to generate said content files used to create a pane to display content with associated media.
21 . The computer system of claim 20 , wherein said user interface component is further operable to communicate with said output process to enable the user to initiate the output process to generate search files used to search for content associated with media.
22 . A computer-implemented method for associating content with media and integrating the content associated with media into a media player, the method comprising:
obtaining data including content associated with media; storing said data including content associated with media on a drop server; upon storing said data including content associated with media, inserting said data including content associated with media into a first server database; and generating content files from said data including content associated with media in said first server database, wherein said content files are used for creating a pane for displaying content associated with media.
23 . A computer-readable medium having computer executable instructions for causing the computer to perform the method of claim 22 .
24 . The computer-implemented method of claim 22 , wherein inserting said data including content associated with media into said first server database includes validating that said data complies with a first Extensible Markup Language Schema.
25 . A computer-readable medium having computer executable instructions for causing the computer to perform the method of claim 24 .
26 . The computer-implemented method of claim 22 , wherein said content files are generated based on said first Extensible Markup Language Schema.
27 . A computer-readable medium having computer executable instructions for causing the computer to perform the method of claim 26 .
28 . The computer-implemented method of claim 22 , further comprising providing a user interface for managing said content and associated media information in said first server database.
29 . A computer-readable medium having computer executable instructions for causing the computer to perform the method of claim 28 .
30 . The computer-implemented method of claim 22 , wherein managing said content and associated media information includes viewing, adding, modifying, and deleting said content and associated media information in said first server database.
31 . The computer-implemented method of claim 22 , further comprising generating search files from said data including content associated with media and sending said search files to a second server search database.
32 . A computer-readable medium having computer executable instructions for causing the computer to perform the method of claim 31 .
33 . The computer-implemented method of claim 31 , wherein said search files are generated based on a second Extensible Markup Language Schema.
34 . The computer-implemented method of claim 33 , wherein said search database generates search results including links to said content associated with media.
35 . The computer-implemented method of claim 34 , further comprising upon a user clicking on said link, using said generated content files to display said content and associated media.
36 . The computer-implemented method of claim 22 , wherein said pane includes streamed media across a broadband Internet connection.
37 . A computer-readable medium having computer executable instructions for causing the computer to perform the method of claim 36 .
38 . A computer system for displaying a pane including content associated with media being streamed to a user, the computer system comprising:
a media component operable to obtain and display streaming media; and a content component operable to obtain and display content data associated with said streaming media.
39 . The computer system of claim 38 , wherein said media component is downloaded from the Internet and embedded in said content display component.
40 . The computer system of claim 39 , wherein said content component is a client Internet browser.
41 . The computer system of claim 39 , wherein said content data associated with said streaming media includes content provider information.
42 . The computer system of claim 39 , wherein said content data corresponding to said streaming media includes a link to a content provider resource.
43 . The computer system of claim 39 , wherein said content data associated with said streaming media includes teaser text for related content and a link to the related content.
44 . The computer system of claim 39 , wherein said content data associated with said streaming media includes an image related to said content.

receiving a user request to display streamed media with associated content; obtaining said requested streamed media; obtaining said content associated with said streamed media; and utilizing said media player embedded in said browser to display said requested streamed media with said associated content.

59 . The method of claim 50 , further comprising, prior to receiving said user request, using said Internet browser to display a link to a resource including said streamed media and associated content and wherein receiving said user request includes determining that the user clicked on said link.
60 . A computer-readable medium having computer executable instructions for causing the computer to perform the method of claim 59 .
61 . The method of claim 59 , wherein said link is displayed in response to receiving a request from the user to search for said streamed media and associated content.
62 . A computer-readable medium having computer executable instructions for causing the computer to perform the method of claim 61 .
63 . A computer system for displaying streamed media and content associated with the streamed media, the computer system comprising:
a server media player component operable to be downloaded and embedded in a client component to display streamed media and content associated with the streamed media; a server database operable to store content associated with said streamed media; a server output component operable to generate content files used by said media player to display said content associated with said streamed media; a server electronic document component operable to receive a request from said client component for said streamed media and associated content; and in response to receiving said request, said server application causes said media player to be downloaded and embedded in said client component to display said streamed media and said associated content.
64 . The computer system of claim 63 , wherein said content associated with said streamed media includes content provider information.
65 . The computer system of claim 63 , wherein said content associated with said streamed media includes a link to a provider resource.
66 . The computer system of claim 63 , wherein said content associated with said streamed media includes teaser text for related content and a link to the related content.
67 . The computer system of claim 63 , wherein said content associated with said streamed media includes an image related to said content.
68 . The computer system of claim 63 , wherein said content associated with said streamed media includes a link to expanded content.

72 . A computer-readable medium having a data structure stored thereon for use in associating content with media and integrating the content associated with media into a media player, the data structure comprising:
a control data element indicative of job control information; one or more item data elements that are indicative of information about an item of content associated with media; one or more media elements that are indicative of media metadata and associated with said item of content; and wherein the data structure is used in inserting data including content associated with media into a database and wherein the data structure is used in generating content files for use by a media player to display said media with said associated content.
73 . The computer-readable medium of claim 72 , wherein said data is obtained from a provider drop server.
74 . The computer-readable medium of claim 73 , wherein said control data element includes drop information, provider identification information, version information, and job type information.
75 . The computer-readable medium of claim 72 , wherein said media data element includes media availability dates, the length of time to play the media, a media caption, media files information, and topics with which the media is associated.
76 . The computer-readable medium of claim 75 , wherein said media data element includes media files information including media type information, media download information, media bandwidth information, and media file name information.

The computer-readable medium of claim 72 , wherein said item data element includes an identifier of a property with which said item of content is associated, information about content availability dates, information about content text, information about content links, information about displaying said item of content with the associated media, and information used in searching for said item of content associated with said media.
78 . The computer-readable medium of claim 77 , wherein said information about displaying the content with the associated media includes pane body information including image background information, a title, a description, information about links, and provider information.
79 . The computer-readable medium of claim 77 , wherein said search information includes a title, a short description, a collection of keywords associated with said content item, and information about an associated media image.
80 . The computer-readable medium of claim 72 , wherein said data structure is implemented using extensible markup language (XML)
81 . A computer-readable medium having a data structure stored thereon for use in associating content with media and integrating the content associated with media into a search database used in searching for content associated with media, the data structure comprising:
a control data element indicative of job control information; one or more site data elements that are indicative of information about a site for accessing content associated with media provided in the search files; one or more media elements that are indicative of information about the media and associated content for the site; and the data structure being used to generate search files from a database storing content associated with media, wherein the search files are based on the data structure and wherein the search files are sent to a search database used in searching for said content associated with media.
82 . The computer-readable medium of claim 81 , wherein said control data element includes drop information, provider information, version information, and job type information.

The computer-readable medium of claim 81 , wherein said site data element includes site identification information, dates when site should appear in search results, a site title, a description of the site, a collection of keywords for the site, an address for the site, and site type information.
84 . The computer-readable medium of claim 81 , wherein said media data element includes a title, a teaser, a description, an address, a media image link information, provider logos information, text links, and action items information about links on said site.
