Anti proliferative preparations

Abstract

A dormant preparation (DC) is provided which is capable of inhibiting proliferation of various kinds of cells. The preparation comprises an extract which is obtained from cells or tissue originating in an organism capable of entering a phase of dormancy in at least one of its parts and comprises at least one substance which induces or maintains the state of dormancy in the organism from which the cells or tissue are derived. The DC may be used for a variety of indications including human medicine and cosmetics, plant growth control and food preservation.

1 . A composition capable of inhibiting proliferation of target cells or target tissues, comprising a member selected from the group consisting of 
 (i) an extract obtained from producer cells or producer tissue, said cells or tissue originating in an organism capable of entering a phase of dormancy in at least one of its parts, said extract comprising at least one substance which induces or maintains said state of dormancy in an organism from which said producer cells or tissues are derived    (ii) a dormancy inducing fraction of said extract; and    (iii) a dormancy inducing substance derived from said extract or fraction.    
     
     
         2 . A composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the producer cells or producer tissue are obtained from a plant.  
     
     
         3 . A composition according to  claim 2 , wherein the ex,tract is derived directly from the plant producer cells or producer tissue.  
     
     
         4 . A composition according to  claim 2 , wherein the extract is obtained from an in vitro cell culture derived from cells or tissues of a dormant plant.  
     
     
         5 . A composition according to any one of claims  2 - 4 , wherein the extract is obtained from dormant seeds.  
     
     
         6 . A composition according to any one of claims  2 - 5 , wherein the plant is Narcissus.  
     
     
         7 . A composition according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the plant extract is a water soluble extract.  
     
     
         8 . A composition according to  claim 2 , wherein the extract is derived from fruit juice.  
     
     
         9 . A composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the producer cells or producer tissue are of animal origin.  
     
     
         10 . A composition according to  claim 9 , wherein the animal is Artemia.  
     
     
         11 . A composition according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the extract is prepared synthetically, said extract having substantially similar characteristics as the extract of  claim 1 .  
     
     
         12 . A composition according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said target cells or tissues are xenogeneic to said producer cells or tissue.  
     
     
         13 . A composition according to  claim 12 , wherein said target cells or target tissue are of human origin.  
     
     
         14 . A composition according to any one of the previous claims, wherein said at least one substance is present at a concentration higher than the concentration of said substance in a natural extract of said producer cell or tissues.  
     
     
         15 . A pharmaceutical or cosmetic preparation comprising a composition of matter according to any one of claims  1 - 14 .  
     
     
         16 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for topical application on an individual's skin.  
     
     
         17 . A preparation according to  claim 16 , for use in the maintenance of juvenile appearance of an individual's skin or for the treatment of age related phenomena of the skin.  
     
     
         18 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for the administration to an individual having a benign or malignant tumor or being at a high risk of developing a benign or malignant tumor.  
     
     
         19 . A preparation having the activity of inhibiting the growth of plant seedlings comprising an extract according to any one of claims  7 - 11 .  
     
     
         20 . A preparation having the activity of reducing the rate of seed germination comprising an extract according to any one of claims  7 - 11 .  
     
     
         21 . A preparation according to any one of claims  15 - 17 , comprising tom about 0.0001% to about 10% by weight of the plant-derived comosition together with a dermatoloically acceptable carrier.  
     
     
         22 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for the administration to an individual receiving chemotherapeutic or radiation treatment.  
     
     
         23 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for the administration to an individual for the inhibition of Alopecia.  
     
     
         24 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for the administration to an individual for the inhibition of hirsutism.  
     
     
         25 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for the administration to an individual in combination with/or following hair removal treatments.  
     
     
         26 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for the administration to an individual to reduce the rate of nail growth.  
     
     
         27 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for the administration to an individual for the inhibition of scar formation.  
     
     
         28 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for the administration to an individual for elongation of a tan.  
     
     
         29 . A preparation according to  claim 15 , for the administration to an individual for the treatment of skin disorders.  
     
     
         30 . A preparation according to  claim 29 , wherein the skin disorder is fibrosis.  
     
     
         31 . A preparation according to  claim 29 , wherein the skin disorder is psoriasis.  
     
     
         32 . A composition according to claims  1 - 11 , for use in the inhibition of growth of plant seeds and/or seedlings.  
     
     
         33 . A composition according to claims  1 - 11 , for use in the preservation of fresh produce.  
     
     
         34 . A process for the preparation of an anti-proliferative composition comprising mixing dormans or DC with a carrier so as to yield an anti-proliferative composition with an anti-proliferative effective amount of dormans in said composition.  
     
     
         35 . A process according to  claim 34 , for preparing a pharmaceutical composition comprising preparing an DC, and mixing it with an appropriate pharmaceutical or cosmetic acceptable carrier, the amount of DC being such so as to yield a final therapeutically effective amount of dormans in the composition.  
     
     
         36 . A process according to  claim 34 , for preparing a cosmetic composition, comprising preparing an DC, and mixing it with an appropriate pharmaceutical or cosmetic acceptable carrier, the amount of DC being such so as to yield a final cosmetically effective amount of dormans in the composition.
