Inhibitor of monoamine uptake

Abstract

The present invention provides compounds and methods for the inhibition of monoamine uptake in mammals.

We claim:  
     
         1 . A compound of Formula I:  
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.  
     
     
         2 . The compound R-(−)-N-methyl 3-((2-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)oxy)-3-phenyl-1-aminopropane hydrochloride.  
     
     
         3 . A pharmaceutical formulation comprising a compound of Formula I:  
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, diluent or excipient.  
     
     
         4 . A pharmaceutical formulation of  claim 3  where the compound of Formula I is R-(−)-N-methyl 3-((2-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)oxy)-3-phenyl-1-aminopropane hydrochloride.  
     
     
         5 . A method for inhibiting the uptake of norepinephrine and serotonin in mammals comprising administering to a mammal in need of such inhibition a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of Formula I:  
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.  
     
     
         6 . A method of  claim 5  where the compound of Formula I is administered systemically.
