Abstract
A generally rectangular vehicle seat frame includes a pair of side members and a pair of cross members. The side members and the cross members have ends defining mating surfaces. The ends of the side members are attached to the respective ends of the cross members such that the mating surfaces are first overlapped at a desired one of multiple positions relative to one another, and then subsequently attached together at the mating surfaces.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A generally rectangular vehicle seat frame comprising:
a pair of side members having ends defining mating surfaces; a pair of cross members having ends defining mating surfaces, wherein said ends of said side members are attached to said respective ends of said cross members such that said mating surfaces are first overlapped at a desired one of multiple positions relative to one another, and then subsequently attached together at said mating surfaces.
2 . The seat frame of claim 1 , wherein the mating surfaces of the side members are flat planar surfaces slidably disposed relative to one another.
3 . The seat frame of claim 1 , wherein the seat frame is a seat back frame.
4 . The seat frame of claim 1 , wherein the seat frame is a seat bottom frame.
5 . The seat frame of claim 1 , wherein said ends of said side members are attached to respective ends of said cross members by welding portions of said mating surfaces together.
6 . The seat frame of claim 5 , wherein said ends of said side members are attached to respective ends of said cross members by welding portions of said mating surfaces together by a spot weld.
7 . The seat frame of claim 1 , wherein the side members are formed from a stamped sheet.
8 . The seat frame of claim 1 , wherein the cross members are formed from a stamped sheet.
9 . The seat frame of claim 1 , wherein one of the side members and the cross members includes a fastener extending therefrom, and the other of the receptive mating side members and the cross members includes an elongated slot for receiving said fastener and accommodating movement of said fastener within said slot when said surfaces are first overlapped at a desired one of multiple positions relative to one another.
10 . A method of assembling a vehicle seat frame comprising the steps of:
a. providing a seat frame including a pair of side members and a pair of cross members, wherein each of the side members and the cross members includes respective overlapping mating surfaces; b. providing one of a plurality of fixtures for properly positioning the respective overlapping mating surfaces at a desired location relative to one another; c. positioning said side members and cross members onto said fixture for positioning the mating surfaces of the cross members relative to the respective mating surfaces of the side members to obtain a desired width of the frame; and d. attaching the respective mating surfaces of the side members to the cross members, thereby assembling the seat frame.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the seat frame is a seat back frame.
12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the seat frame is a seat bottom frame.
13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the respective mating surfaces of the side members are attached to the cross members by welding.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the respective mating surfaces of the side members are attached to the cross members by spot welding.
15 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the side members are formed from a stamped sheet.
16 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the cross members are formed from a stamped sheet.
17 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the mating surfaces of the side members are flat planar surfaces.
18 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the method further includes a step (e) of attaching one of a seat recliner mechanism and a seat adjuster mechanism to said seat frameJoin the waitlist — get patent alerts
