Co-injection nozzle, method of its use, and resulting golf ball

Abstract

A nozzle for an injection molding machine is disclosed. The nozzle includes a nozzle body, an inner nozzle, and an outer nozzle. The nozzle defines two independent flow paths therethrough. The nozzle can simultaneously discharge two materials. A method of using the nozzle and a resulting golf ball product are also disclosed.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A golf ball product, comprising: 
 a core; and    a cover surrounding said core, said cover including an inner layer of a first material and an outer layer of a second material;    wherein said first material is substantially translucent and said second material is substantially opaque.    
     
     
         2 . The golf ball product of  claim 1 , wherein said inner layer has a first thickness and said outer layer has a second thickness, said first thickness being greater than said second thickness.  
     
     
         3 . The golf ball of  claim 2 , wherein said second thickness is from approximately 0.005 inch to approximately 0.065 inch.  
     
     
         4 . The golf ball product of  claim 1 , wherein said inner layer has a first thickness and said outer layer has a second thickness, said first thickness being less than said second thickness.  
     
     
         5 . The golf ball product of  claim 4 , wherein said first thickness is from approximately 0.010 inch to approximately 0.050 inch.  
     
     
         6 . The golf ball product of  claim 1 , wherein said second material is harder than said first material.  
     
     
         7 . The golf ball product of  claim 6 , wherein: 
 said first material has a Shore D hardness of less than approximately 63; and    said second material has a Shore D hardness of more than approximately 65.    
     
     
         8 . The golf ball product of  claim 1 , wherein a difference between a hardness of said inner layer and a hardness of said outer layer is greater than approximately 5 Shore D.  
     
     
         9 . The golf ball product of  claim 8 , wherein said difference is less than approximately 25 Shore D.  
     
     
         10 . The golf ball product of  claim 8 , wherein said difference is less than approximately 15 Shore D.  
     
     
         11 . The golf ball product of  claim 8 , wherein said difference is less than approximately 10 Shore D.  
     
     
         12 . The golf ball product of  claim 1 , further comprising an intermediate layer between said core and said cover.  
     
     
         13 . The golf ball product of  claim 1 , wherein said cover further includes a third layer.  
     
     
         14 . The golf ball product of  claim 1 , further comprising a layer over said cover.  
     
     
         15 . A golf ball product, comprising: 
 a core; and    a cover surrounding said core, said cover including a first material and a second material;    wherein said first material is of a first color and said second material is of a second color, said first color being different than said second color.    
     
     
         16 . The golf ball product of  claim 15 , wherein: 
 said first and second materials are substantially the same;    said first material includes a first pigment additive;    said second material includes a second pigment additive.    
     
     
         17 . The golf ball product of  claim 16 , wherein: 
 one of said first and second additives is substantially white; and    the other of said first and second additives is substantially colored other than white.    
     
     
         18 . The golf ball product of  claim 17 , wherein said colored additive is substantially fluorescent yellow.  
     
     
         19 . The golf ball product of  claim 17 , wherein said colored additive is substantially concentrated around poles of the golf ball product.  
     
     
         20 . The golf ball product of  claim 17 , wherein said colored additive is substantially concentrated around an equator of the golf ball product.
