Abstract

The present invention is a method of injecting a class of lipid soluble radioactive metal chelate compounds for intratumoral treatment of malignant, benign, metastatic, or inoperable tumors. A device for intratumoral injection of such compounds comprises a syringe and attached needle having a closed sharp tip and a plurality of outlets arranged in the need shaft to provide for radial distribution of the injected substance in a volume of tissue.

I claim:  
     
         1 . A device for intratumoral injection, comprising a syringe and a needle attached to said syringe, wherein said need comprises a shaft comprising a plurality of outlets therein and a closed sharp tip, such that a substance injected from said device is radially distributed in a volume of tissue.  
     
     
         2 . The device according to  claim 1  wherein the syringe contains one or more lipid-soluble radioactive metal chelates.  
     
     
         3 . The device according to  claim 2  wherein the one or more lipid-soluble radioactive metal chelates comprise a radionuclide selected from the group consisting of In-111, In-114m, Sn-113, Dy-159, Co-56, Fe-59, Cu-67, Y-90, Ru-97, Ru-103, Pd-103, Cd-115, Sn-117, Te-118, Te-123, Ba-131, Ba-140, Gd-149, Gd-151, Tb-160, Re-186, Re-188, Au-198, and Au-199.  
     
     
         4 . The device according to  claim 3  wherein the lipid-soluble radioactive metal chelate is selected from the group consisting of indium-111-oxine, indium-111-merc, indium-111-tropolone, rhenium-186 HMPAO, rhenium-188 HMPAO, rhenium-186 sestaMIBI, and rhenium-188 sestaMIBI.  
     
     
         5 . The device according to  claim 4  wherein the metal chelate is indium-111-oxine.  
     
     
         6 . The device according to  claim 4  wherein the metal chelate is indium-111-merc.
