Abstract
The invention provides BASB040 polypeptides and polynucleotides from Neisseria meningitidis encoding BASB040 polypeptides and methods for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques. Also provided are diagnostic, prophylactic and therapeutic uses.

28 . An isolated polypeptide comprising a member selected from the group consisting of
(a) the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO:6; and (b) an immunogenic fragment of at least 15 contiguous amino acids of SEQ ID NO:6; wherein the immunogenic fragment, when administered to a subject in a suitable composition which can include an adjuvant, or a suitable carrier coupled to the polypeptide, induces an antibody or T-cell mediated immune response that recognizes the polypeptide SEQ ID NO:6.
29 . The isolated polypeptide of claim 28 , wherein the polypeptide is according to (a).
30 . The isolated polypeptide of claim 28 , wherein the polypeptide is according to (b).
31 . The isolated polypeptide of claim 28 , wherein the immunogenic fragment of (b) comprises at least 20 contiguous amino acids of SEQ ID NO:6; wherein the immunogenic fragment, when administered to a subject in a suitable composition which can include an adjuvant, or a suitable carrier coupled to the polypeptide, induces an antibody or T-cell mediated immune response that recognizes the polypeptide SEQ ID NO:6.
32 . The isolated polypeptide of claim 28 , wherein the isolated polypeptide consists of SEQ ID NO:6.
33 . The isolated polypeptide of claim 28 , wherein the isolated polypeptide is a recombinant polypeptide.
34 . An immunogenic composition comprising the isolated polypeptide of claim 28 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
35 . The immunogenic composition of claim 34 , further comprising an adjuvant.
36 . The immunogenic composition of claim 35 , wherein the adjuvant is a TH-1 type adjuvant.
37 . The immunogenic composition of claim 36 , wherein the TH-1 type adjuvant is selected from the group consisting of 3D-MPL and QS21.
38 . The immunogenic composition of claim 34 , wherein the carrier is an oil-in-water emulsion.
39 . The immunogenic composition of claim 34 , wherein the carrier is an aluminum salt.
40 . A fusion protein comprising the isolated polypeptide of claim 28 and a polypeptide selected to:
(a) provide T-helper epitopes;
(b) facilitate purification from a recombinant expression system; or
