Abstract

An insulated wall for a mobile platform is formed from at least two layers. A first layer includes an insulation material. A second layer includes a flexible material having an outer face with a decorative pattern and an inner face attached to the first layer. The wall is mounted in the mobile platform with the outer face of the second layer having the decorative pattern forming a mobile platform innermost facing surface. By attaching a flexible material layer to the insulation material, the insulated wall can be formed into rolls and rolled out during installation in a single step. In another embodiment, fasteners are preinstalled in the wall for fastening the wall to the mobile platform. In yet another embodiment, a method for insulating a compartment of a mobile platform is provided.

6 . The wall of claim 1 , comprising a preassembly configuration having both the first layer and the second layer together formable as a coiled roll.

7 . The wall of claim 1 , wherein the second layer comprises a cloth material.

8 . The wall of claim 1 , wherein the second layer comprises a polymeric material.

9 . The wall of claim 1 , wherein the second layer comprises a material capable of retaining a decorative dye.

10 . The wall of claim 1 , wherein the inner face comprises a perimeter region attachable to the first layer.

11 . An insulated wall for a mobile platform, the wall comprising:
a first layer including an insulation material; a second layer including a flexible material having an outer face defining a decorative pattern and an inner face attachable to the first layer; a plurality of wall mounting fasteners each connectable at a fixing end to only the first layer; and each of the fasteners including a distal connecting end freely extending from the first layer in a direction facing away from the second layer, the distal connecting end operable to connectably join the wall to the mobile platform; wherein the wall is connectable to the mobile platform such that the outer face of the second layer defines an innermost facing surface of the mobile platform.

12 . The wall of claim 11 , wherein each distal connecting end operably forms a releasable connection.

       13 . A mobile platform, comprising:
an exterior skin defining at least one interior compartment; a composite wall conformable to a shape of the exterior skin and connectable to the exterior skin within the interior compartment; and the composite wall including at least one insulation layer and a flexible layer attachable to the insulation layer; wherein the flexible layer operably forms an interior boundary surface of the interior compartment when the composite wall is connected to the exterior skin having the insulation layer facing the exterior skin.

14 . The mobile platform of claim 13 , wherein the exterior skin further comprises:
at least two structural members; and a cavity formed between adjacent ones of the structural members.

15 . The mobile platform of claim 14 , wherein the composite wall defines a continuous cross section having an insulation layer outer face supportable by an interior facing surface of each of the structural members.

16 . The mobile platform of claim 14 , wherein the composite wall defines a discontinuous cross section having a first portion of the insulation layer supportable by an interior facing surface of the structural members and a second portion of the insulation layer disposed within the cavity formed between the adjacent ones of the structural members.

17 . The mobile platform of claim 13 , wherein the flexible layer comprises a polymeric material having a decorative pattern formed thereon.

18 . The mobile platform of claim 13 , wherein the flexible layer comprises a cloth material having a decorative pattern formed thereon.

19 . The mobile platform of claim 13 , comprising a plurality of apertures formed through the composite wall, each positionable corresponding to one of a plurality of windows mountable on the exterior skin.

20 . The mobile platform of claim 19 , comprising a window trim unit connectable to a structure of each of the windows to operably seal each of the plurality of apertures about each of the windows.

21 . A method for insulating a compartment of a mobile platform using a one piece insulated wall having a flexible material layer attachable to an insulation layer, the method comprising the steps of:
