Claims

Abstract

Compositions used to enhance the elasticity and/or appearance of tissue are described. The compositions include peptides and/or peptide-like compounds and combinations thereof having low molecular weights and which substantially correspond to sequences found in elastin. The compositions may be applied to human skin in a cosmetic or therapeutic formulation and may result in enhanced elasticity and turgor of the skin.

1 . A composition, comprising: 
 one or more peptides comprising an amino acid sequence GVG, the peptides selected from IGGVGG (SEQ ID NO. 25), VAPGVG (SEQ ID NO. 26), LGVGG (SEQ ID NO. 27), LGVGA (SEQ ID NO. 35), VGVGVPG (SEQ ID NO. 40) and LGPGVG (SEQ ID NO. 41).    
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1 , the peptides of the composition comprising an amino acid sequence GVGG, the peptides selected from IGGVGG (SEQ ID NO. 25) and LGVGG (SEQ ID NO. 27).  
     
     
         3 . The composition of  claim 1 , where the concentration of peptides in the composition is a therapeutically effective concentration.  
     
     
         4 . The composition of  claim 1 , where the composition is a cosmetic preparation.  
     
     
         5 . A composition, comprising: 
 one or more peptides comprising an amino acid sequence GPG, the peptides selected from LGPG (SEQ ID NO. 8), VGPG (SEQ ID NO. 10), FGPG (SEQ ID NO. 11), LGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 21), FGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 31) and LGPGVG (SEQ ID NO. 41).    
     
     
         6 . The composition of  claim 5 , the peptides of the composition comprising an amino acid sequence FGPG, the peptides selected from FGPG (SEQ ID NO. 11) and FGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 31).  
     
     
         7 . The composition of  claim 5 , the peptides of the composition comprising an amino acid sequence GPGG, the peptides selected from LGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 21) and FGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 31).  
     
     
         8 . The composition of  claim 5 , where the concentration of peptides in the composition is a therapeutically effective concentration.  
     
     
         9 . The composition of  claim 5 , where the composition is a cosmetic preparation.  
     
     
         10 . A composition, comprising: 
 one or more peptides comprising an amino acid sequence AAA, the peptides selected from AAAQA (SEQ ID NO. 22) and FRAAA (SEQ ID NO. 29).    
     
     
         11 . The composition of  claim 10 , where the concentration of peptides in the composition is a therapeutically effective concentration.  
     
     
         12 . The composition of  claim 10 , where the composition is a cosmetic preparation.  
     
     
         13 . A composition, comprising: 
 one or more peptides comprising an amino acid sequence PGG, the peptides selected from LGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 21), VVPGG (SEQ ID NO. 24) and FGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 31).    
     
     
         14 . The composition of  claim 13 , where the concentration of peptides in the composition is a therapeutically effective concentration.  
     
     
         15 . The composition of  claim 13 , where the composition is a cosmetic preparation.  
     
     
         16 . A composition, comprising: 
 one or more peptides comprising an amino acid sequence VPG, the peptides selected from VVPG (SEQ ID NO. 15), AVPG (SEQ ID NO. 16), VVPGG (SEQ ID NO. 24), VGGVPG (SEQ ID NO. 30), VGVPG (SEQ ID NO.32) and VGVGVPG (SEQ ID NO. 40).    
     
     
         17 . The composition of  claim 16 , the peptides of the composition comprising an amino acid sequence VVPG, the peptides selected from VVPG (SEQ ID NO. 15) and VVPGG (SEQ ID NO. 24).  
     
     
         18 . The composition of  claim 16 , where the concentration of peptides in the composition is a therapeutically effective concentration.  
     
     
         19 . The composition of  claim 16 , where the composition is a cosmetic preparation.  
     
     
         20 . A composition, comprising: 
 one or more peptides selected from VGAG (SEQ ID NO. 2), IGAG (SEQ ID NO. 5), VAPG (SEQ ID NO. 7), LGAG (SEQ ID NO. 9), VGPQ (SEQ ID NO. 12), VGPA (SEQ ID NO. 14), AIPG (SEQ ID NO. 20), VLPG (SEQ ID NO. 28), VLPGAG (SEQ ID NO. 33), VGLHypG (SEQ ID NO. 34), AFPG (SEQ ID NO. 36), AFPGA (SEQ ID NO. 37), VGIPA (SEQ ID NO. 38) and VGGIPT (SEQ ID NO. 39).    
     
     
         21 . The composition of  claim 20 , where the concentration of peptides in the composition is a therapeutically effective concentration.  
     
     
         22 . The composition of  claim 20 , where the composition is a cosmetic preparation.  
     
     
         23 . A composition, comprising: 
 one or more peptides of between 4 and 7 amino acids in length which are identical to a sequence of consecutive amino acids within elastin and which comprise the amino acid sequence PG, the peptides obtained from cleavage of less than all of the peptide bonds in elastin or a precursor of elastin, the peptides comprising between about 0.0002 and 90% by weight of the composition; wherein application of the composition to skin causes one or more of, improved appearance, improved texture, increased softness, increased elasticity, increased tone, increased turgor, increased vasculature, increased mRNA levels in skin cells, and increased skin cell proliferation.    
     
     
         24 . The composition of  claim 23 , where the peptides include one or more of, VAPG (SEQ ID NO. 7), LGPG (SEQ ID NO. 8), VGPG (SEQ ID NO. 10), FGPG (SEQ ID NO. 11), VVPG (SEQ ID NO. 15), AVPG (SEQ ID NO. 16), AIPG (SEQ ID NO. 20), LGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 21), VYPGG (SEQ ID NO. 24), VAPGVG (SEQ ID NO. 26), VLPG (SEQ ID NO. 28), VGGVPG (SEQ ID NO. 30), FGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 31), VGVPG (SEQ ID NO. 32), VLPGAG (SEQ ID NO. 33), AFPG (SEQ ID NO. 36), AFPGA (SEQ ID NO. 37), VGVGVPG (SEQ ID NO. 40), and LGPGVG (SEQ ID NO. 41).  
     
     
         25 . The compostion of  claim 23 , where the one or more peptides which comprise the amino acid sequence PG, comprise the amino acid sequence VLPG.  
     
     
         26 . The composition of  claim 25 , where the peptides include one or more of, VLPG (SEQ ID NO. 28), and VLPGAG (SEQ ID NO. 33).  
     
     
         27 . The compostion of  claim 23 , where the one or more peptides which comprise the amino acid sequence PG, comprise the amino acid sequence VPG.  
     
     
         28 . The composition of  claim 27 , where the peptides include one or more of, VVPG (SEQ ID NO. 15), AVPG (SEQ ID NO. 16), VGGVPG (SEQ ID NO. 30), VGVPG (SEQ ID NO. 32), and VGVGVPG (SEQ ID NO. 40).  
     
     
         29 . The compostion of  claim 23 , where the one or more peptides which comprise the amino acid sequence PG, comprise the amino acid sequence GPG.  
     
     
         30 . The composition of  claim 29 , where the peptides include one or more of, LGPG (SEQ ID NO. 8), VGPG (SEQ ID NO. 10), FGPG (SEQ ID NO. 11), LGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 21), FGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 31) and LGPGVG (SEQ ID NO. 41).  
     
     
         31 . The compostion of  claim 23 , where the one or more peptides which comprise the amino acid sequence PG, comprise the amino acid sequence PGG.  
     
     
         32 . The composition of  claim 31 , where the peptides include one or more of, LGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 21), and FGPGG (SEQ ID NO. 31).
