Abstract
A bioadhesive composition comprises a bioadhesive polyphenolic protein derived from a byssus-forming mussel and a polymer-comprising carbohydrate group, but does not include enzymatic oxidizing agents or chemical cross-linking agents.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A bioadhesive composition comprising:
a bioadhesive polyphenolic protein derived from a byssus-forming mussel, said protein comprising 30-300 amino acids and consisting essentially of tandemly linked peptide repeats comprising 3-15 amino acid residues, wherein at least 5% of the amino acid residues of said bioadhesive polyphenolic protein are L-3,4-dihydroxyphenyalanine; and at least one polymer-comprising carbohydrate group, wherein said bioadhesive composition does not comprise enzymatic oxidizing agents or chemical cross-linking agents.
2 . A composition according to claim 1 , wherein said at least one polymer-comprising carbohydrate group can form a combined preparation with said bioadhesive polyphenolic protein.
3 . A composition according to claim 1 , wherein said at least one polymer-comprising carbohydrate group is selected from the group consisting of heparin, chondroitin sulphate, chitosan and hyaluronan.
4 . A composition according to claim 1 , further comprising pharmaceutically acceptable fine filaments.
5 . A composition according to claim 1 , wherein 6-25% of the amino acid residues of said bioadhesive polyphenolic protein are L-3,4-dihrdroxyphenyalanine.
6 . A composition according to claim 1 , further comprising a non-enzymatic oxidizing agent.
7 . A composition according to claim 6 , wherein said non-enzymatic oxidizing agent is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen peroxide, nitroprusside ions and periodate ions.
8 . A composition according to claim 1 , further comprising a filler protein.
9 . A composition according to claim 8 , wherein said filler protein is selected from the group consisting of collagen, casein, albumin, elastin, fibronectin and fibrin.
10 . A combined bioadhesive composition, comprising:
a bioadhesive polyphenolic protein derived from a byssus-forming mussel, said protein comprising 3-300 amino acids and consisting essentially of tandemly linked peptide repeats comprising 3-15 amino acid residues, wherein at least 5% of the amino acid residues of said bioadhesive polyphenolic protein are L-3,4-dihrdroxyphenyalanine; and at least one polymer-comprising carbohydrate group, wherein said protein and said polymer are in the form of a combined bioadhesive preparation for simultaneous medical use; and said preparation does not comprise any enzymatic oxidizing agent or chemical cross-linking agent.
11 . A composition according to claim 10 , further comprising a non-enzymatic oxidizing agent
12 . A composition according to claim 10 , wherein said non-enzymatic oxidizing agent is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen peroxide, nitroprusside ions and periodate ions.
13 . A composition according to claim 10 , further comprising pharmaceutically acceptable fine filaments.
14 . A kit, comprising:
a combined bioadhesive composition according to claim 10; and instructions for use.
15 . A kit according to claim 14 , wherein said instructions are instructions for covering or attaching structures to eye tissue.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
