Plate with holder for wine glass

Abstract

A ceramic, porcelain or china plate having a recessed central food supporting surface bounded by an elevated outwardly extending rim terminating in a edge, with a peripheral opening in the edge leading to a generally circular opening through the rim which may be bounded by a raised rib, the opening adapted to receive lower portions of the body of a stemmed wine glass to support the wine glass at the plate rim. The raised rib is angled downwardly from the edge slightly towards the recessed central food supporting surface to support the wine glass at a slightly tilted angle to the general plane of the plate.

A plate formed of earthenware, china or porcelain having a central dished well surface bounded by a raised outwardly extending rim, and a substantially part circular opening through said rim spaced from said well surface, the opening having a passageway open to a peripheral edge of the rim, the passageway opening being smaller than the diameter of the part circular opening, the part circular opening being adapted to receive the body of a stemmed wine glass and the part circular opening having an upper boundary surface angled inwardly and downwardly from adjacent the edge towards the well.  
   
   
       2 . A china plate having a peripheral edge, a central recessed food supporting well, a verge zone between the well and a rim, the rim extending from the verge zone to the edge, an access opening in the edge open to a larger opening formed in the rim adapted to receive a stemmed glass, the larger opening bounded except for the access opening by a raised rib projecting above the surface of the rim.  
   
   
       3 . The plate of  claim 2  wherein the plate has a top plane defined by the periphery of the plate and the raised rib is angled inwardly and downwardly with respect to the plane from the periphery towards the well.  
   
   
       4 . The plate of  claim 3  wherein the rim is angled inwardly and downwardly from the periphery to the verge zone at an angle greater than the angle of the raised rib whereby the rib projects a maximum distance above the lip adjacent the verge.  
   
   
       5 . The plate of  claim 4  which is glazed and has a coeffient of friction at least at the area of the raised rib effective to resist tipping of a glass received in the opening resting against the rib.  
   
   
       6 . The plate of  claim 4  wherein the raised rib has an inner diameter surface curved inwardly from top to bottom.  
   
   
       7 . The plate of  claim 2  wherein the larger opening provides a hanging surface for suspending the plate from a suspension rod.
