Abstract

A concrete wall form that can readily be used with different types of form ties systems to construct parallel form sections for receiving poured concrete. The form includes first and second tie rod engaging portions configured to receive first and second types of tie rods, respectively. In one aspect of the invention, the first tie rod engaging portion is configured to receive frangible tie rods in the form of elongate wires or flat strips. In another aspect of the invention, the second tie rod engaging portion is configured to receive tie rods having threaded bars that extend through tubes and between parallel wall form sections.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A concrete form, comprising:
at least one form section adapted for use in combination with at least one other form section to define a space therebetween for receiving poured concrete, said form section comprising horizontal and vertical frame members; at least one first tie rod engaging portion on said form section, said first tie rod engaging portion configured to receive a first type of tie rod that is adapted to extend through the space between said at least one form section and the at least one other form section for direct contact with concrete poured into the space and having an intermediate portion that is separable from distal ends thereof such that the intermediate portion remains embedded in the cured concrete after said form section is removed; and at least one second tie rod engaging portion on said form section, said second tie rod engaging portion configured to receive a second type of tie rod such that the second type of tie rod extends through the space between said at least one form section and the at least one other form section and such that the second type of tie rod can be completely removed from the space after concrete poured therebetween has cured; said second tie rod engaging portion comprising an opening formed through said form section and a bracket attached to said form section, proximate said opening.

2 . The concrete form of claim 1 , wherein said second tie rod engaging portion comprises:
a reinforcement plate proximate a junction of one of said horizontal frame members and one of said vertical frame members, said reinforcement plate extending in a plane substantially parallel to said horizontal and vertical frame members and having an aperture therethrough sized to receive a tie rod of the second type; and a blocking plate adjacent and substantially perpendicular to said reinforcement plate and extending between said horizontal framing member and said vertical framing member.

3 . The concrete form of claim 1 , further comprising:
at least one bracket coupable to said form section, proximate said second tie rod engaging portion, said bracket and said second tie rod engaging portion cooperating to support a tie rod of the second type on said form section.

4 . The concrete form of claim 1 , wherein said second tie engaging portion is configured to receive a tie in the form of a threaded bar.

5 . The concrete form of claim 1 , wherein the number of second tie rod engaging portions is less that the number of first tie rod engaging portions.

6 . A system for forming concrete structure, comprising:
a plurality of first form sections secured together in an edge-to-edge arrangement; a plurality of second form sections secured together in an edge-to-edge arrangement and spaced from said plurality of first form sections to define a space therebetween for receiving poured concrete; each form section of said first and second form sections comprising:
at least one first tie rod engaging portion configured to receive a first type of tie rod that is adapted to extend through said space between said first and second form sections for direct contact with the concrete poured into said space, at least a portion of the first type of tie rod remaining embedded in the cured concrete when said form section is removed, and
at least one second tie rod engaging portion configured to receive a second type of tie rod that is adapted to be removably received through said space between said first and second form sections.

         7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein:
each said form section comprises a plurality of elongate vertical frame members and a plurality of elongate horizontal frame members interconnected to define a planar frame structure; and said second tie rod engaging portions are located at an intersection of said horizontal and vertical framing members.

8 . The system of claim 6 , wherein said first tie rod engaging portion is defined by abutting portions of adjacent edge-aligned form sections.

9 . The system of claim 7 , wherein said second tie rod engaging portion comprises:
a reinforcement plate proximate a junction of one of said horizontal frame members and one of said vertical frame members, said reinforcement plate extending in a plane substantially parallel to said horizontal and vertical frame members and having an aperture therethrough sized to receive a tie rod of the second type; and a blocking plate adjacent and substantially perpendicular to said reinforcement plate and extending between said horizontal framing member and said vertical framing member.

10 . The system of claim 6 , further comprising
a plurality of facing members, each said facing member secured to one of said plurality of forms and defining an interface for molding an outer surface of the concrete structure.

11 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the number of second tie rod engaging portions on each said form section is less than the number of first tie rod engaging portions on said form section.

12 . The system of claim 6 , further comprising a plurality of tie rods, said plurality of tie rods selected from one of the first and second types of tie rods.
