Abstract
In one embodiment, the data storage media can comprise: a substrate, a data layer, and a reflective layer disposed between the data layer and the substrate. The substrate can comprise a substrate material selected from the group consisting of polyphenylene ether, blends comprising polyphenylene ether, copolymers comprising polyphenylene ether, mixtures comprising polyphenylene ether, reaction products of a compostion comprising polyphenylene ether, and composites comprising polyphenylene ether. The data layer can comprise a material selected from the group consisting of organic dye and inorganic phase change materials. The storage media can comprise imprinted features. In another embodiment, the first surface data storage media can comprise: a substrate, a reflective layer on a first side of the substrate, and a protective layer disposed on a side of the substrate opposite the first side. The protective layer can comprise silicon dioxide. The first surface data storage media comprises imprinted features.

2 . The data storage media of claim 1 , further comprising a dielectric layer comprising a nitride.
3 . The data storage media of claim 2 , wherein the nitride comprises aluminum nitride.
4 . The data storage media of claim 1 , further comprising a reflective layer comprising a reflective material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, silver, gold, titanium, and alloys and mixtures comprising at least one of the foregoing.
5 . The data storage media of claim 4 , wherein the reflective material is selected from the group consisting of silver, alloys comprising silver, and mixtures comprising silver.
6 . The data storage media of claim 1 , further comprising a coating comprising tetrafluoroethylene fluorocarbon polymer.
7 . The data storage media of claim 1 , further comprising a lubrication layer comprising fluoro compounds.
8 . The data storage media of claim 1 , wherein the substrate further comprises polystyrene.
9 . The data storage media of claim 1 , further comprising a protective layer comprising silicon dioxide.
10 . The data storage media of claim 1 , further comprising a coating comprising a coating material selected from the group consisting of epoxy, polyacrylate, and combinations comprising at least one of the foregoing.
11 . The data storage media of claim 10 , wherein the coating material comprises polyacrylate.
12 . The data storage media of claim 1 , wherein the storage media is a first surface media.
13 . A data storage media, comprising:
a substrate comprising a substrate material selected from the group consisting of polyphenylene ether, blends comprising polyphenylene ether, copolymers comprising polyphenylene ether, mixtures comprising polyphenylene ether, reaction products of a compostion comprising polyphenylene ether, and composites comprising polyphenylene ether; a reflective layer; and a protective layer comprising polyacrylate; wherein the storage media comprises imprinted features.
14 . A first surface data storage media, comprising:
a plastic substrate; a reflective layer on a first side of the substrate; and a protective layer disposed on a side of the substrate opposite the first side, wherein the protective layer comprises silicon dioxide; wherein the first surface data storage media comprises imprinted features.
15 . The data storage media of claim 14 , further comprising a coating disposed on a side of the protective layer opposite the substrate, wherein the coating comprises polyacrylate.
16 . The data storage media of claim 14 , wherein the substrate comprises polycarbonate.
17 . The data storage media of claim 14 , further comprising a film on the first side of the substrate, wherein the film comprises polycarbonate.
