Table with table top and layer
Abstract
A table may include a table top and a layer or sheet of material may be attached to an upper portion of the table top. The table top and the layer preferably have different properties, characteristics and qualities, which may allow the layer to modify or change the attributes of the table and/or the table top. For example, the table top may be constructed from blow-molded plastic and the layer may be constructed from flooring material and/or laminated material. Advantageously, the layer may change the appearance, design, aesthetics, functionality and/or potential uses of the table. The layer may be attached to the table top by an adhesive and the layer may be at least partially disposed within a receiving portion in the table top.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A table comprising:
a table top constructed from blow-molded plastic and including a hollow interior portion that is formed during the blow-molding process, the table top including an upper portion and a lower portion, the blow-molded plastic table top having a first set of properties, characteristics and qualities; at least one leg assembly connected to the table top; and a layer attached to an upper portion of the table top, the layer having a second set of properties, characteristics and qualities that are different than the first set of properties, characteristics and qualities of the table top.
2 . The table as in claim 1 , further comprising an adhesive layer that is used to attach the layer to the table top.
3 . The table as in claim 1 , further comprising a receiving portion in the upper portion of the table top that is sized and configured to receive at least a portion of the layer.
4 . The table as in claim 3 , further comprising a thickness of the layer that is substantially equal to a depth of the receiving portion so that at least a portion of an upper portion of the layer is generally aligned with at least a portion of an upper portion of the table top.
5 . The table as in claim 3 , wherein the receiving portion is integrally formed during the blow-molding process as part of a unitary, one-piece structure.
6 . The table as in claim 1 , wherein the layer has a different appearance than the table top to provide a contrast between the layer and the table top.
7 . The table as in claim 1 , wherein the layer provides different functionality than the table top.
8 . The table as in claim 1 , wherein the layer is constructed from a flooring material.
9 . The table as in claim 1 , wherein the layer is constructed from a laminated material.
10 . The table as in claim 1 , wherein the layer includes multiple layers that are attached to the table top.
11 . The table as in claim 1 , wherein the layer includes at least one outer edge with a generally tapered configuration.
12 . The table as in claim 1 , wherein the layer is attached to the table top using a peel-and-stick process.
13 . The table as in claim 1 , wherein the layer has a thickness in the range of about one millimeter to about five millimeters and the table top has a thickness in the range of about one centimeter to about ten centimeters.
14 . A table comprising:
a table top constructed from plastic, the plastic table top including a first set of properties, characteristics and qualities; at least one leg assembly connected to the table top; and a laminated layer attached to the table top, the laminated layer including a second set of properties, characteristics and qualities that are different than the first set of properties, characteristics and qualities of the plastic table top.
15 . The table as in claim 14 , wherein the table top is constructed from blow-molded plastic and includes a hollow interior portion that is formed during the blow-molding process.
16 . A method of constructing at least a portion of a table, the method comprising:
providing a table top constructed from blow-molded plastic and including a hollow interior portion that is formed during the blow-molding process, the table top including an upper portion and a lower portion, the blow-molded plastic table top having a first set of properties, characteristics and qualities; providing at least one leg assembly that is connected to the table top; providing a layer with an adhesive disposed on at least one portion of the layer, the layer having a second set of properties, characteristics and qualities that are different than the first set of properties, characteristics and qualities of the table top; and attaching the layer to an upper portion of the table top.
17 . The method as in claim 16 , further comprising attaching the layer to a receiving portion disposed in the upper portion of the table top.
18 . The method as in claim 17 , wherein a thickness of the layer that is substantially equal to a depth of the receiving portion so that at least a portion of an upper portion of the layer is generally aligned with at least a portion of an upper portion of the table top.
19 . The method as in claim 16 , wherein the layer is constructed from a flooring material.
20 . The method as in claim 16 , wherein the layer is constructed from a laminated material.Cited by (0)
