Abstract

A system for updating a licensing cache memory is disclosed. A licensing cache memory is providing that is associated with a client device for the storage and retrieval of licensing records. A request generator generates a licensing request responsive to a licensing event and receives license information responsive to the request over an IP-compliant network. Licensing information is stored in the licensing cache memory and the client is operated accordingly.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A system for updating a licensing cache memory comprising:
a client device having associated cache memory for the storage and retrieval of licensing records; a request generator operatively disposed within said client device for generating an indirect request through a license server based upon a licensing event; the client device being configured to receive license information over an IP-compliant network and store the licensing information in said cache.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said client is operated in accordance with the contents of the license information received from the license server and stored in said cache.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said client is further configured to direct a user of a software application operable on said client to a Web site if it is determined that no valid license exists.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the client software application is not enabled for use until a valid license is purchased.

5 . The system of claim 2 , wherein said license validity request is sent at predetermined intervals.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein said license validity request includes the IP address of the machine upon which the client software application is operating.

7 . A system for updating a licensing cache memory comprising:
client device means having associated cache memory means for the storage and retrieval of licensing records; request generator means for generating an indirect request through a license server based upon a licensing event; and means for receiving license information over an IP-compliant network; and means for storing the licensing information in said cache.

8 . The system of claim 7 , further comprising means for operating said client means in accordance with the contents of the license information received from the license server and stored in said cache.

9 . The system of claim 7 , further comprising means for directing a user of a software application operable on said client to a Web site if it is determined that no valid license exists.

10 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising means for not enabling for use said software application until a valid license is purchased.

11 . The system of claim 10 , further comprising means for sending said license validity request at predetermined intervals.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein said license validity request includes the IP address of the machine upon which the client software application is operating.

13 . A system for updating a licensing cache memory comprising:
licensing cache memory associated with a client device for the storage and retrieval of licensing records; a request generator operatively disposed within said client device for generating an licensing request responsive to a licensing event; the client device being configured to receive license information responsive to the licensing request over an IP-compliant network and store the licensing information in said licensing cache memory.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein said client is operated in accordance with the contents of the license information received from the license server and stored in said cache.

15 . The system of claim 13 , wherein said client is further configured to direct a user of a software application operable on said client to a Web site if it is determined that no valid license exists.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the client software application is not enabled for use until a valid license is purchased.

17 . The system of claim 14 , wherein said license validity request is sent at predetermined intervals.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said license validity request includes the IP address of the machine upon which the client software application is operating.
