Abstract
A precision sharpening tool is disclosed, having opposing sharpening elements arranged to form a generally “V” shaped sharpening slot and first and second guide members arranged on opposite sides of the sharpening slot which comprise tensioned spring means arranged to urge a guiding surface against a side of a blade being drawn through the sharpening slot.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A sharpening tool comprising:
opposing sharpening elements arranged to form a generally “V” shaped sharpening slot; a guide member arranged adjacent said sharpening slot, said guide member comprising tensioned spring means arranged to urge a guiding surface against a side of a blade being drawn through said sharpening slot.
2 . The sharpening tool of claim 1 wherein said guide member comprises a rotatable cylindrical surface which engages a side of said blade.
3 . The sharpening tool of claim 1 wherein said spring means is selected from bar, flat and leaf spring.
4 . The sharpening tool of claim 1 wherein said sharpening elements are mounted in a mounting block and said tensioned spring means comprises a flat spring means which is mounted to said block.
5 . The sharpening tool of claim 1 comprising first and second guide members arranged on opposite sides of said sharpening slot.
6 . The sharpening tool of claim 5 wherein said guide members are arranged about equidistant from and generally parallel to a bisecting plane of said generally “V” shaped sharpening slot.
7 . The sharpening tool of claim 1 wherein said sharpening elements are arranged in off-set overlapping opposition.
8 . The sharpening tool of claim 7 wherein said opposing sharpening elements comprise polygonal plates, arranged so that sharpening edges thereof form the generally “V” shaped sharpening slot.
9 . The sharpening tool of claim 7 wherein said sharpening elements comprise angled crossing sharpening sticks.
10 . The sharpening tool of claim 7 wherein a plurality of opposing sharpening elements are generally mounted in interleaved about parallel stacks, forming the generally “V” shaped sharpening slot.
11 . The sharpening tool of claim 1 wherein the vertex angle of the of said generally “V” shaped sharpening slot, is from about 35 degrees to about 45 degrees.
12 . The sharpening tool of claim 11 wherein said guide member supports a knife blade along about the bisect plane of said generally “V” shaped sharpening slot.
13 . The sharpening tool of claim 3 wherein said guide member comprises a mounting post having a spring tensioning means mounted thereto arranged to urge a guiding surface against a side of a blade being drawn through said sharpening slot.
14 . The sharpening tool of claim 13 wherein said spring tensioning means comprises a bar spring having a guiding surface arranged to engage a side of a blade being drawn through said sharpening slot.
15 . The sharpening tool of claim 14 wherein said guiding surface comprises a rotatable cylindrical surface which engages a side of a blade being drawn through said sharpening slot.
16 . The sharpening tool of claim 14 wherein said spring tensing means comprises a leaf spring.
17 . A sharpening tool comprising:
a mounting block, comprising slots arranged for mounting opposing sharpening elements comprising overlapping rectilinear plates having sharpening edges arranged in a generally “V” shaped sharpening slot arrangement; first and second guide members arranged adjacent said sharpening slot, said guide members comprising tensioned spring means arranged to urge a guiding surface against a side of a blade being drawn through said sharpening slot; wherein said tensioned spring means is selected from flat, bar and leaf flat spring means.
18 . The sharpening tool of claim 17 wherein said guide member comprises a flat spring tensioning means mounted to said mounting block adjacent said generally “V” shaped slot, said flat spring being arranged to urge a guiding surface thereof against a side of a blade being drawn through said sharpening slot.Cited by (0)
