Abstract

Disclosed is a smoke projectile comprising a pyrotechnic active charge which emits in the infrared range and is impenetrable in the visible range. The aim of the invention is to create a smoke projectile which has a simple design while resulting in the line of sight quickly fading in the infrared and visible radiation range on impact at a wide solid angle. The active charge ( 2 ) forms a hollow cylinder-shaped stack which comprises several layers ( 5 ) of hollow cylinder segments ( 6 ) and is disposed within a burnable outer coating ( 4 ).

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A fog projectile having an active charge comprising a pyrotechnic active material for producing an aerosol which emits in the infrared and which is visually impenetrable, wherein the active charge ( 2 ) is a hollow-cylinder stack, the hollow-cylinder stack being composed of a plurality of layers ( 5 ) of hollow cylindrical segments ( 6 ) and in which the hollow-cylinder stack is held in an enclosure ( 4 ) which is burnable down and which contains a firing charge ( 3 ) concurrently acting as a discharge charge, and comprises a combustible foil ( 8 ).

2 . A fog projectile according to claim 1 , wherein the firing charge ( 3 ) forms the lowermost layer of the stack.

       3 . A fog projectile according to claim 1 , wherein the enclosure ( 4 ) comprises said foil ( 8 ) and a disc ( 9 ) which is arranged beneath the stack.

4 . A fog projectile according to claim 1 , wherein the foil ( 8 ) of the enclosure ( 4 ) peripherally encloses the active charge ( 2 ) and at the top side thereof.

5 . A fog projectile according to claim 1 , wherein the foil ( 8 ) comprises a paper which is saturated with paraffin.

6 . A fog projectile according to claim 3 , wherein the disc ( 9 ) of the enclosure ( 4 ) is a disc constituted of pressed fiber material.

       7 . A fog projectile according to claim 5 , wherein the disc ( 9 ) of the enclosure ( 4 ) has an opening ( 10 ) extending therethrough.

       8 . A fog projectile according to claim 1 , wherein an electrical firing element ( 13 ) projects into the firing charge ( 3 ).

9 . A fog projectile according to claim 1 , wherein said projectile is dimensioned such that the enclosure ( 4 ) breaks open about 5 to 10 m along its trajectory.
