Method for managing multiple entries contained in an on-line database

Abstract

Methods and apparatus for managing multiple entries contained in an on-line database are disclosed. In one disclosed embodiment, a web-accessible database server is provided that is configured to verify the identity of a user desiring to access the database. After verifying the user's identity, Transaction IDs associated with the user are retrieved. Entries contained in the database associated with each of the plurality of Transaction IDs are then retrieved. The results are then presented to the user in a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formatted page containing a list of entries owned by the user. The list may be presented as a list of hyperlinks, with each of the hyperlinks corresponding to a full page entry associated with each of the retrieved Transaction IDs. The user may then update entries, or add new entries to the database.

1 . A method for managing multiple entries contained in an on-line database comprising: 
 receiving a request from a user to access an on-line database;    verifying the identity of the user;    retrieving at least one Transaction ID associated with said user;    retrieving at least one entry contained in said on-line database associated with the at least one Transaction ID; and    presenting said user a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formatted page displaying in list form said at least one entry contained in the on-line database associated with said at least one Transaction ID.    
   
   
       2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to update one of said entries by selecting an entry desired to be updated from said list.  
   
   
       3 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to index said selected entry in said on-line database in at least one user-defined category.  
   
   
       4 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to index said selected entry in said on-line database with at least one user-defined keyword.  
   
   
       5 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a graphical image to said selected entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       6 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a hyperlinked URL to said selected entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       7 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a new entry to said on-line database.  
   
   
       8 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to index said new entry in said on-line database in at least one user-defined category.  
   
   
       9 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to index said new entry in said on-line database with at least one user-defined keyword.  
   
   
       10 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a graphical image to said new entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       11 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a hyperlinked URL to said new entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       12 . A method for managing multiple entries contained in an on-line database comprising: 
 receiving a request from a user to access an on-line database;    verifying the identity of the user;    retrieving a plurality of Transaction IDs associated with said user;    retrieving an entry contained in said on-line database associated with each of the plurality of Transaction IDs; and    presenting said user a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formatted page containing a list of hyperlinks, each of said hyperlinks corresponding to a full page entry associated with each of said retrieved Transaction IDs.    
   
   
       13 . The method of  claim 12 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to update one of said entries by selecting one of said hyperlinks.  
   
   
       14 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to index said selected entry in said on-line database in at least one user-defined category.  
   
   
       15 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to index said selected entry in said on-line database with at least one user-defined keyword.  
   
   
       16 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a graphical image to said selected entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       17 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a hyperlinked URL to said selected entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       18 . The method of  claim 12 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a new entry to said on-line database.  
   
   
       19 . The method of  claim 18 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to index said new entry in said on-line database in at least one user-defined category.  
   
   
       20 . The method of  claim 18 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to index said new entry in said on-line database with at least one user-defined keyword.  
   
   
       21 . The method of  claim 18 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a graphical image to said new entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       22 . The method of  claim 18 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a hyperlinked URL to said new entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       23 . An apparatus for managing multiple entries contained in an on-line database comprising: 
 means for receiving a request from a user to access an on-line database;    means for verifying the identity of the user;    means for retrieving at least one Transaction ID associated with said user;    means for retrieving at least one entry contained in said on-line database associated with the at least one Transaction ID; and    means for presenting said user a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formatted page displaying in list form said at least one entry contained in the on-line database associated with said at least one Transaction ID.    
   
   
       24 . The apparatus of  claim 23 , further comprising means for allowing said user to add a new entry to said on-line database.  
   
   
       25 . The apparatus of  claim 24 , further comprising means for allowing said user to index said new entry in said on-line database in at least one user-defined category.  
   
   
       26 . The apparatus of  claim 24 , further comprising means for allowing said user to index said new entry in said on-line database with at least one user-defined keyword.  
   
   
       27 . The apparatus of  claim 24 , further comprising means for allowing said user to add a graphical image to said new entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       28 . The apparatus of  claim 24 , further comprising means for allowing said user to add a hyperlinked URL to said new entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       29 . A apparatus for managing multiple entries contained in an on-line database comprising: 
 means for receiving a request from a user to access an on-line database;    means for verifying the identity of the user;    means for retrieving a plurality of Transaction IDs associated with said user;    means for retrieving an entry contained in said on-line database associated with each of the plurality of Transaction IDs; and    means for presenting said user a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formatted page containing a list of hyperlinks, each of said hyperlinks corresponding to a full page entry associated with each of said retrieved Transaction IDs.    
   
   
       30 . The apparatus of  claim 29 , further comprising means for allowing said user to add a new entry to said on-line database.  
   
   
       31 . The apparatus of  claim 30 , further comprising means for allowing said user to index said new entry in said on-line database in at least one user-defined category.
