Abstract
A facility for securing text captured from a rendered document is described. The facility receives data including an encryption of text captured from a rendered document. The facility decrypts the captured text included in the received data.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method in a computing system for securing text captured form a rendered document, comprising:
receiving data including an encryption of text captured from a rendered document; and decrypting the captured text included in the received data.
. The method of claim 1 wherein the decrypting includes decrypting using a session key.
. The method of claim 2 wherein the session key includes information about a user performing a capture.
. The method of claim 3 wherein information about a user performing a capture includes biometric information.
. The method of claim 2 wherein the capture is performed using a scanning device, and wherein the session key includes information identifying the scanning device.
. The method of claim 5 wherein the information identifying the scanning device is stored at least partially in hardware within the scanning device.
. The method of claim 1 wherein the decrypting includes decrypting using a public/private key pair.
. The method of claim 7 wherein the public/private key pair includes information about a user performing a capture.
. The method of claim 8 wherein the information about a user performing a capture includes biometric information.
. The method of claim 7 wherein the capture is performed using a scanning device, and wherein the public/private key pair includes information identifying the scanning device.
. The method of claim 10 wherein the information identifying the scanning device is stored at least partially in hardware within the scanning device.
. The method of claim 1 wherein receiving includes receiving the encrypted information without any source network address information.
. A method comprising:
capturing at least a portion of a rendered document; encrypting the scanned information; and sending the encrypted information to a remote server.
. The method of claim 13 wherein the capturing is performed using a hand-held scanning optical scanning device.
. The method of claim 14 wherein the encrypting includes encrypting using a session key.
. The method of claim 15 wherein the session key includes information about a user performing the capture.
. The method of claim 16 wherein the information about a user performing the capture includes biometric information.
. The method of claim 15 wherein the capture is performed using a scanning device, and wherein the session key includes information identifying the scanning device.
. The method of claim 18 wherein the information identifying the scanning device is stored at least partially in hardware within the scanning device.
. The method of claim 14 wherein the encrypting includes encrypting using a public/private key pair.
. The method of claim 20 wherein the public/private key pair includes information about a user performing the capture.
. The method of claim 21 wherein the information about the user performing the capture includes biometric information.
. The method of claim 20 wherein the public/private key pair includes information identifying the scanning device.
. The method of claim 23 wherein the information identifying the scanning device is stored at least partially in hardware within the scanning device.
. The method of claim 14 wherein the sending includes at least partially wirelessly sending the encrypted information to the remote server.
. The method of claim 14 , further comprising, before sending the encrypted information, stripping the encrypted information of source address information.
. A computer program product residing in a hand-held scanner device including a processor, the computer program product performing a method comprising:
generating scan information based on a scan of at least a portion of at least one of a paper or displayed document; encrypting the generated scan information; and sending the encrypted information to a remote server.
. The method of claim 27 wherein the generated scan information includes optical scan information.
. The method of claim 28 wherein the encrypting includes encrypting using a session key.
. The method of claim 29 wherein the session key includes scanner user information.
. The method of claim 30 wherein scanner user information includes user biometric information.
. The method of claim 29 wherein the session key includes scanner identification information.
. The method of claim 32 wherein the scanner identification information is stored at least partially in hardware within a scanner.
. The method of claim 28 wherein encrypting includes encrypting using a public/private key pair.
. The method of claim 34 wherein the public/private key pair includes scanner user information.
. The method of claim 35 wherein the scanner user information includes user biometric information.
. The method of claim 34 wherein the public/private key pair includes scanner identification information.
. The method of claim 37 wherein the scanner identification information is implemented at least partially in hardware within a scanner.
. The method of claim 38 wherein the sending includes at least partially wirelessly sending the encrypted information to the remote server.
. The method of claim 28 wherein the sending includes sending the encrypted information includes stripping the encrypted information of original address information.
. A hand-held scanner apparatus comprising:
a component for generating scan information based on a scan of at least a portion of at least one of a paper or displayed document; a component for encrypting the generated scan information; and a component for sending the encrypted information to a remote server.
. The apparatus of claim 41 wherein the generated scan information includes optical scan information.
. The apparatus of claim 42 wherein the component for encrypting encrypts using a session key.
. The apparatus of claim 43 wherein the session key includes scanner user information.
. The apparatus of claim 44 wherein scanner user information includes user biometric information.
. The apparatus of claim 43 wherein the session key includes scanner identification information.
. The apparatus of claim 46 wherein the scanner identification information is implemented at least partially in hardware.
. The apparatus of claim 42 wherein the component for encrypting encrypts using a public/private key pair.
. The apparatus of claim 48 wherein the public/private key pair includes scanner user information.
. The apparatus of claim 49 wherein scanner user information includes user biometric information.
. The apparatus of claim 48 wherein the public/private key pair includes scanner identification information.
