Abstract

Compositions and methods for systemic administration of DNA encoding bone morphogenic proteins for promotion of osteogenesis are disclosed. The compositions and methods of the invention may be utilized for fracture repair. The invention further discloses compositions and methods for systemic administration of bone morphogenetic proteins for promotion of osteogenesis. These compositions and methods may be used in bone fracture healing and repair. These composition of the invention may be further utilized in increasing bone mineral density.

         31 . A method for promoting osteogenesis in a patient comprising systemic administration of an effective amount of a composition comprising an osteogenic protein.  
     
     
         32 . A method for promoting fracture repair in a patient comprising systemic administration of an effective amount of a composition comprising an osteogenic protein.  
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 31  or  claim 32 , wherein the osteogenic protein is selected from the group consisting of BMP-2, BMP-4, BMP-5, BMP-6, BMP-7, BMP-10, BMP-12, BMP-13, BMP-15, BMP-16, and MP52.  
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 33 , wherein the osteogenic protein is BMP-2.  
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 33 , wherein the osteogenic protein is BMP-4.  
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 33 , wherein the osteogenic protein is BMP-5.  
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 33 , wherein the osteogenic protein is BMP-6.  
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 33 , wherein the osteogenic protein is BMP-7.  
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 33 , wherein the osteogenic protein is BMP-10.
