Yarn having lateral projections

Abstract

An elongated polymer yarn includes a central body from which there extends a pair of spaced apart lateral projections. In one embodiment, the body is in the nature of a cylindrical member, while the projections are in the nature of flat planar members. The projections are arranged opposing one another about the body in co-planar arrangement, although angular arrangements are contemplated.

A woven panel comprising a plurality of polymer first yarns woven together with a plurality of polymer second yarns forming a woven panel therefrom, at least one of said first and second yarns including an elongated body and first and second projections extending outwardly from said body at spaced apart locations.  
     
     
         2 . The woven panel of  claim 1 , wherein each of said first and second yarns include an elongated body and first and second projections extending outwardly therefrom at spaced apart locations.  
     
     
         3 . The woven panel of  claim 1 , wherein said first and second projections are arranged opposing one another in a substantially common plane.  
     
     
         4 . The woven panel of  claim 1 , wherein said first and second projections are arranged in respective planes at an angle to one another.  
     
     
         5 . The woven panel of  claim 1 , wherein said first and second projections comprise flat members.  
     
     
         6 . The woven panel of  claim 1 , wherein said body comprises a cylindrical member.  
     
     
         7 . The woven panel of  claim 1 , wherein said yarn having said first and second projections is twisted.  
     
     
         8 . The woven panel of  claim 1 , wherein said first and second yarns have an exposed outer surface; and a coating having a color covering at least a portion of said exposed outer surface of said first and second yarns.  
     
     
         9 . The woven panel of  claim 8 , wherein said coating comprise a composition having adhesion properties for said polymer.  
     
     
         10 . The woven panel of  claim 9 , wherein said composition comprises a film forming component, a color component, and at least one component selected from the group consisting of a solvent and a thinner.  
     
     
         11 . The woven panel of  claim 8 , wherein said first and second yarns within said woven portion are bonded to each other by said coating.  
     
     
         12 . An article of furniture comprising a frame having the shape of an article of furniture, and a woven panel attached to said frame, said woven panel comprising a plurality of polymer first yarns woven together with a plurality of polymer second yarns forming a woven panel therefrom, at least one of said first and second yarns including an elongated body and first and second projections extending outwardly from said body at spaced apart locations.  
     
     
         13 . The article of  claim 12 , wherein each of said first and second yarns include an elongated body and first and second projections extending outwardly therefrom at spaced apart locations.  
     
     
         14 . The article of  claim 12 , wherein said first and second projections are arranged opposing one another in a substantially common plane.  
     
     
         15 . The article of  claim 12 , wherein said first and second projections are arranged in respective planes at an angle to one another.  
     
     
         16 . The article of  claim 12 , wherein said first and second projections comprise flat members.  
     
     
         17 . The article of  claim 12 , wherein said body comprises a cylindrical member.  
     
     
         18 . The article of  claim 12 , wherein said yarn having said first and second projections is twisted.  
     
     
         19 . The article of  claim 12 , wherein said first and second yarns have an exposed outer surface; and a coating having a color covering at least a portion of said exposed outer surface of said first and second yarns.  
     
     
         20 . The article of  claim 19 , wherein said coating non-uniformly covers said exposed outer surfaces of said first and second yarns.  
     
     
         21 . The article of  claim 19 , wherein said first and second yarns within said woven portion are bonded to each other by said coating.  
     
     
         22 . A polymer yarn comprising an elongated body having first and second projections extending outwardly from said body at spaced apart locations.  
     
     
         23 . The yarn of  claim 22 , wherein said first and second projections are arranged opposing one another in a substantially common plane.  
     
     
         24 . The yarn of  claim 22 , wherein said first and second projections are arranged in respective planes at an angle to one another.  
     
     
         25 . The yarn of  claim 22 , wherein said first and second projections comprise flat members.  
     
     
         26 . The yarn of  claim 22 , wherein said body comprises a cylindrical member.  
     
     
         27 . The yarn of  claim 22 , wherein said yarn is twisted.  
     
     
         28 . The yarn of  claim 22 , further including a coating adhered to the outer surface of said yarn having a color different from the color of said yarn.  
     
     
         29 . A polymer yarn comprising a cylindrical elongated body having first and second flat projections extending outwardly from said body opposing one another in a substantially common plane.  
     
     
         30 . The yarn of  claim 29 , further including a coating adhered to the outer surface of said yarn having a color different from the color of said yarn.  
     
     
         31 . The yarn of  claim 29 , wherein each of said projections comprise planar members.  
     
     
         32 . The yarn of  claim 29 , wherein said body has a deformed outer surface.  
     
     
         33 . The yarn of  claim 32 , wherein said body further has a non-uniform cross section along the length of said body.  
     
     
         34 . A polymer yarn comprising an elongated flat member having first and second opposing surfaces, a first shaped elongated member extending from said first surface midway therealong, and a second shaped elongated member extending from said second surface midway therealong, said first and second shaped elongated members opposing one another.  
     
     
         35 . The yarn of  claim 34 , wherein said flat member comprises a planar member.  
     
     
         36 . The yarn of  claim 34 , wherein said first and second shaped elongated members have a semi-circular shape.  
     
     
         37 . The yarn of  claim 34 , wherein said flat member has a V-shaped cross-section.  
     
     
         38 . The yarn of  claim 34 , further including a coating adhered to the outer surface of said yarn having a color different from the color of said yarn.  
     
     
         39 . The yarn of  claim 38 , wherein said coating comprises a color component and at least one component selected from the group consisting of a solvent and a thinner.
