Color display product with removable color chips and a method for making same

Abstract

The color card or display device of the invention has one or more paint color swatches or chips which are removable from a base and are repositionable and adhesively affixable to another substrate remote from the color card or display device. The color card with repositionable paint swatches provides swatches which may be remounted onto furniture, walls, other samples and fabrics to aid the consumer of the color to select the color on the swatch and match it with other colors and the environment for which the color is intended.

1 . A color display device, the display device comprising: 
 a mount base;    at least one printed release composition layer on the mount base;    at least one printed pressure sensitive indirect adhesive layer on the at least one printed release composition layer on the mount base;    at least one paint coated color swatch on the printed pressure sensitive adhesive layer, the paint coated color swatch being releasably mounted on the pressure sensitive indirect adhesive, the pressure sensitive adhesive bonding to the swatch and effective for providing a releasably bonded paint coated color swatch which may be repositioned remote from the color display device and releasably bonded onto a remote substrate.    
   
   
       2 . A color display device as recited in  claim 1  wherein paint coated swatch has a label on the swatch and a corresponding label on the mount base in the vicinity of the swatch.  
   
   
       3 . A color display device as recited in  claim 1  wherein the paint coated swatch includes a perforated line which is effective for permitting the removal of a portion of the swatch from the mount base after the swatch is torn along the perforated line.  
   
   
       4 . A color display device as recited in claims  1  or  3  wherein the paint coated color swatch has a substrate which is a paintable polymeric film.  
   
   
       5 . A color display device as recited in  claim 4  wherein the paintable film is selected from the group consisting of polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate.  
   
   
       6 . A method of making a color display device, the method comprising: 
 printing areas of a mount base with a release composition to provide a at least on area having a printed release composition layer;    printing a pressure sensitive indirect adhesive on the at least one of the at least one dried release composition layer to provide at least one pressure sensitive adhesive layer on the release composition layer; and    mounting a display swatch to the at least one printed pressure sensitive indirect adhesive layer.    
   
   
       7 . A method as recited in  claim 6  wherein the printing of the release composition layer is done by a printing process selected from the group consisting of lithographic printing, Gravure printing, flexographic printing and silk screen printing.  
   
   
       8 . A method as recited in  claim 7  wherein the method further includes perforating the display swatch to provide a tear line which is effective for permitting the removal of the swatch from the mount base.  
   
   
       9 . A method as recited in  claim 7  wherein the method further comprises printing the mount base with graphics when the release composition is printed on the mount base.  
   
   
       10 . A color display device, the display device comprising: 
 a paper mount base;    at least one printed release composition layer on the mount base;    at least one printed pressure sensitive indirect adhesive layer on the at least one printed release composition layer on the mount base;    at least one paint coated color swatch on the printed pressure sensitive indirect adhesive layer, the color swatch being releasably mounted on the pressure sensitive adhesive, the pressure sensitive indirect adhesive bonding the swatch to the adhesive layer and effective for providing a releasably bonded color swatch which may be repositioned remote from the color display device and releasably bonded onto a remote substrate, the indirect adhesive releasably bonding the painted swatch to the printed release composition on the mount base such that the adhesive bond has about 0.8 to about 3.0 oz. per inch bond strength using a 180 degree peel adhesion test after about a 24 hour dwell time and a minimum of about 250 grams of wet tack bond strength contact placement within about 30 seconds or less.
