Abstract

Smokable rods of cigarettes are manufactured using wrapping materials that incorporate at least one fibrous material (e.g., flax fibers, hardwood pulp fibers and/or softwood pulp fibers) at least one filler material (e.g., calcium carbonate in particulate form). The wrapping materials possess multi-layer coatings. The wrapping materials include coatings in the form of series of spaced apart bands, each band having a series of layers. At least one of the coating layers can have a filler material dispersed or suspended within a film-forming material of that layer. Flavoring agent(s) are included in one or more of the wrapping material itself, a seam adhesive, and/or bands included on the wrapping material.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A wrapping material for a smoking article, the wrapping material comprising:
 a base sheet comprising
 a major surface and
a seam adhesive, the seam adhesive comprising a first flavoring agent; and
a plurality of bands applied to the major surface in the form of a pattern; each band possessing at least two layers; the at least two layers including a bottom layer applied to a major surface of the base sheet, and an upper layer applied over the bottom layer; at least one layer incorporating a second flavoring agent.

2 . The wrapping material of claim 1 , wherein the base sheet further comprises a third flavoring agent.

3 . The wrapping material of claim 1 wherein the first flavoring agent is the same as the second flavoring agent.

4 . The wrapping material of claim 1 wherein the first flavoring agent is the same as the third flavoring agent.

5 . The wrapping material of claim 1 wherein the second flavoring agent is the same as the third flavoring agent.

6 . The wrapping material of claim 1 further comprising a hydrate material in at least one of the plurality of bands.

7 . The wrapping material of claim 6 wherein the hydrate material is a metal hydrate.

8 . The wrapping material of claim 6 wherein the hydrate material is selected from the group consisting of borax, magnesium sulfate decahydrate, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, sodium silicate pentahydrate, and sodium sulfate decahydrate.

9 . The wrapping material of claim 1 further comprising a third layer applied over the upper layer; at least one of the layers incorporating at least one flavoring agent, a hydrate material, or both.

10 . The wrapping material of claim 9 further comprising a fourth layer applied over the third layer; at least one of the layers incorporating at least one flavoring agent, a hydrate material, or both.

11 . The wrapping material of claim 9 , wherein each layer further comprises a film-forming agent.

12 . The wrapping material of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the flavoring agents is selected from the group consisting of ethyl vanillin, vanillin, inulin, heliotropin, methylcyclopentenolone, caryophyllene oxide, 4-hydroxphenyl-2-butanone, gamma-dodecalactone, rhamnose, 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol, 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol, 5-ethyl-3-hydroxy-4-methyl-2(5H)-furanone, methyl salicylate, clary sage oil, sandalwood oil, and any combination thereof.

13 . The wrapping material of claim 1 wherein each layer incorporates a film-forming agent.

14 . A smoking article comprising a smokable material at least partially contained within the wrapping material of claim 1 .

15 . A wrapping material for a smoking article, the wrapping material comprising:
 a base sheet comprising
 a major surface
 a first flavoring agent; and
a seam adhesive, the seam adhesive comprising a second flavoring agent; and
a plurality of bands applied to the major surface in the form of a pattern; each band possessing at least two layers; the at least two layers including a bottom layer applied to the major surface of the base sheet, and an upper layer applied over the bottom layer.

16 . The wrapping material of claim 15 wherein the first flavoring agent is the same as the second flavoring agent.

17 . The wrapping material of claim 15 further comprising a hydrate material in at least one of the plurality of bands.

18 . The wrapping material of claim 17 wherein the hydrate material is a metal hydrate.

19 . The wrapping material of claim 17 wherein the hydrate material is selected from the group consisting of borax, magnesium sulfate decahydrate, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, sodium silicate pentahydrate, and sodium sulfate decahydrate.

20 . The wrapping material of claim 15 further comprising a third layer applied over the upper layer; at least one of the layers incorporating a hydrate material.

21 . The wrapping material of claim 20 further comprising a fourth layer applied over the third layer; at least one of the layers incorporating a hydrate material.

         22 .
