Abstract
Antifungal and antibacterial peptides, polypeptides and proteins as antifungal additives for paint and other coatings are disclosed, along with antifungal compositions, and coated surfaces with antifungal properties. Methods of using the coatings for treating and/or inhibiting growth of mold, mildew and other fungi and bacteria on objects such as building materials that are susceptible to such infestation are also disclosed.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . (canceled)
. The composition of claim 9 , comprising: a naturally occurring or synthetic substance that serves as a growth surface by said fungus or bacterium in the absence of a sufficient amount of said antifungal or antibacterial peptidic agent and/or another antifungal or antibacterial agent, and a sufficient amount of said antifungal or antifungal peptidic agent to inhibit or prevent growth.
- 4 . (canceled)
. The composition of claim 9 wherein said composition comprises a binder in an amount effective to enhance adherence of said coat formed from said composition.
. (canceled)
. The composition of claim 9 , comprising at least one liquid component selected from the group consisting of solvents, thinners, diluents, plasticizers and water.
. The composition of claim 9 , comprising an additive selected from the group consisting of preservatives, wetting agents, buffers, rheology modifiers, defoamers, catalysts, anti-skinning agents, light stabilizers, corrosion inhibitors, dehydrators, electrical agents, and anti-insect agents.
. A bioactive surface coating composition comprising an antifungal or antibacterial peptidic agent in a sufficient amount to inhibit or prevent the growth of a fungus or bacterium on a surface coated with said surface coating composition, wherein the coating comprises a clear coating.
. The coating of claim 9 , wherein the clear coating comprises a lacquer, a varnish, a shellac, a stain, a water repellent coating, or a combination thereof.
- 184 . (canceled)
. The composition of claim 9 , wherein at least one said peptide, polypeptide or protein is synthetic.
. The composition of claim 9 , wherein at least one said peptide, polypeptide or protein is derived from a naturally occurring source
. The composition of claim 9 , wherein said antifungal or antibacterial peptidic agent comprises an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID Nos. 1-199.
. The composition of claim 186 wherein the amino acid sequence of at least one said peptide is selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID Nos. 1-47.
. The composition of claim 186 wherein each said amino acid is independently selected from the group consisting of the D-stereoisomer and L-stereoisomer forms of said amino acids.
. The composition of claim 186 wherein at least one said amino acid is cyclic.
. The composition of claim 9 , wherein said fungus comprises at least one species from at least one genus selected from the group consisting of Stachybotrys, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, Alternaria, Aureobasidium, Phoma and Cladosporium.
. The composition of claim 9 , wherein said fungus comprises at least one species from at least one genus selected from the group consisting of Rhizoctonia, Ceratocystis, Pythium, Mycosphaerella and Candida.
. The composition of claim 9 , comprising the property of water-repellency.
. The composition of claim 9 , comprising a powder or dry consistency.
. The composition of claim 9 , comprising a liquid or semi-liquid consistency.
