Abstract
Methods for a treatment of cached objects are described. In one embodiment, an application is configured to cache objects according to different caching treatments, each different caching treatment associated with its own region of cache. The configuring also involves installing a different combination of storage and eviction policy plug-ins for each different region of cache, with each of the storage plug-ins including code to perform get and put operations, and each of the eviction policy plug-ins including code to perform cache eviction operations.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method, comprising:
configuring an application to cache objects according to different caching treatments, each different caching treatment associated with its own region of cache, said configuring comprising installing a different combination of storage and eviction policy plug-ins for each different region of cache, each of said storage plug-ins comprising code to perform get and put operations, each of said eviction policy plug-ins comprising code to perform cache eviction operations.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein said region of cache is within a local memory that is private to a virtual machine that executes said eviction policy plug-in code.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein said cache eviction operations further comprise, after a threshold is surpassed, triggering eviction of an object from a region of cache on a timed basis.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein said cache eviction operations further comprise, after a threshold is surpassed, triggering eviction of an object from a region of cache in response to a second object being newly entered into said region of cache.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein said cache eviction operations further comprise, after a threshold is reached, triggering eviction of one or more objects from a cache region until the usage of said region of cache drops below a specific level.
6 . A computing system comprising a machine, said computing system also comprising instructions disposed on a computer readable medium, said instructions capable of being executed by said machine to perform a method, said method comprising:
configuring an application to cache objects according to different caching treatments, each different caching treatment associated with its own region of cache, said configuring comprising installing a different combination of storage and eviction policy plug-ins for each different region of cache, each of said storage plug-ins comprising code to perform get and put operations, each of said eviction policy plug-ins comprising code to perform cache eviction operations.
7 . The computing system of claim 6 , wherein said instructions further cause the machine to perform said method wherein said region of cache is within a local memory that is private to a virtual machine that executes said eviction policy plug-in code.
8 . The computing system of claim 6 , wherein said instructions further cause the machine to perform said method wherein said cache eviction operations further comprise, after a threshold is surpassed, triggering eviction of an object from a region of cache on a timed basis.
9 . The computing system of claim 6 , wherein said instructions further cause the machine to perform said method wherein said cache eviction operations further comprise, after a threshold is surpassed, triggering eviction of an object from a region of cache in response to a second object being newly entered into said region of cache.
10 . The computing system of claim 6 , wherein said instructions further cause the machine to perform said method wherein said cache eviction operations further comprise, after a threshold is reached, triggering eviction of one or more objects from a cache region until the usage of said region of cache drops below a specific level.
11 . An article of manufacture including program code which, when executed by a machine, causes the machine to perform a method, said method comprising:
configuring an application to cache objects according to different caching treatments, each different caching treatment associated with its own region of cache, said configuring comprising installing a different combination of storage and eviction policy plug-ins for each different region of cache, each of said storage plug-ins comprising code to perform get and put operations, each of said eviction policy plug-ins comprising code to perform cache eviction operations.
12 . The article of manufacture as in claim 11 , wherein said region of cache is within a local memory that is private to a virtual machine that executes said eviction policy plug-in code.
13 . The article of manufacture as in claim 11 , wherein said cache eviction operations further comprise, after a threshold is surpassed, triggering eviction of an object from a region of cache on a timed basis.
14 . The article of manufacture as in claim 11 , wherein said cache eviction operations further comprise, after a threshold is surpassed, triggering eviction of an object from a region of cache in response to a second object being newly entered into said region of cache.
15 . The article of manufacture as in claim 11 , wherein said cache eviction operations further comprise, after a threshold is reached, triggering eviction of one or more objects from a cache region until the usage of said region of cache drops below a specific level.Cited by (0)
