Method and apparatus interfacing for querying a device between an application and a library of a master on home network
Abstract
The present invention relates to method and apparatus for interfacing for querying a device between various applications operated on a home network and a library to ensure their compatibility. In a method for querying a device on a home network according to the present invention, a control application calls a function of a library for querying a device or a list of devices on a network, and the library checks individual devices and writes a list of the individual devices or detailed information on the device in a location that an input argument accompanied by the calling points to, thereby delivering a list of devices or detailed information on a device to the control application.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for exchanging commands and/or responses between an application and a library of a device managing a network, comprising:
(a) calling a function of a library for providing a list of active devices, the calling being conducted by the application; and (b) delivering a list of active devices to the application by writing information on individual active devices in a location that an input argument accompanied by the calling points to, the delivering being conducted by the library.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein in the step (b), number of active devices is additionally written in the location to be delivered to the application.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each entry of the list includes device identifying information, device type, and device mode wherein the device mode indicates whether a device is master or slave.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein in the step (b), the library allocates a necessary memory space for the active devices.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the allocated memory space is deallocated to be reused when release of the memory space is requested from the application.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the input argument comprises a pointer of a device list space that is allocated by the application.
7 . An apparatus for managing devices connected to a network, comprising:
a library for exchanging information with the devices; and an application for requesting a list of the devices by calling a function of a library, and for receiving resultant information of the request from the function, wherein on the request of the application, the function delivers a list of active devices to the application by writing information on individual active devices in a location that an input argument accompanied by the calling of the application points to.
8 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the function further writes number of active devices in the location to deliver to the application.
9 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein each entry of the list includes device identifying information, device type, and device mode wherein the device mode indicates whether a device is master or slave.
10 . A method for exchanging commands and/or responses between an application and a library of a device managing a network, comprising:
(a) calling a function of a library for providing information on a device with an input argument containing identifying information of a device connected to the network, the calling being conducted by the application; and (b) delivering information on a device specified by the identifying information to the application by writing information on the device in a location that the input argument points to, the delivering being conducted by the library.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the information comprises device identifying information, address information including device type and serial number, model number of a device, and location information where a device is installed.
12 . An apparatus for managing devices connected to a network, comprising:
a library for exchanging information with the devices; and an application for requesting information of one device among the devices by calling a function of a library, and for receiving resultant information of the request from the function, wherein the function delivers information on the one device to the application by writing information on the one device in a location that an input argument accompanied by the calling of the application points to.
13 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the application informs the function of the one device by putting identifying information of the one device in the input argument.
