Method for searching entries in an on-line database

Abstract

A web server including a searchable on-line searchable database is disclosed. The web server may be configured to receive a query from a user to search an on-line database, the query including at least a category and a keyword; retrieve a list of search results responsive to the search, the search results including an entry previously posted by an owner, the entry being indexed in a category defined by the owner of said entry; and present a search results page to the user, said search results page including the at least one category defined by an owner and an associated description provided by the owner.

1 . A method for searching entries in an on-line database comprising: 
 receiving a query from a user to search an on-line database, the query including at least a category and a keyword;    retrieving a list of search results responsive to the search, the search results including an entry previously posted by an owner, the entry being indexed in a category defined by said owner of said entry; and    presenting a search results page to said user, said search results page including the at least one category defined by an owner and an associated description provided by said owner.    
   
   
       2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said entry includes non-textual content.  
   
   
       3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein said non-textual content comprise graphics.  
   
   
       4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said keyword corresponds to a keyword defined by said owner.  
   
   
       5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a URL to said entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       6 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising the act of allowing said user to add a hyperlink to said entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       7 . An apparatus for searching entries in an on-line database comprising: 
 means for receiving a query from a user to search an on-line database, the query including at least a category and a keyword;    means for retrieving a list of search results responsive to the search, the search results including an entry previously posted by an owner, the entry being indexed in a category defined by said owner of said entry; and    means for presenting a search results page to said user, said search results page including the at least one category defined by an owner and an associated description provided by said owner.    
   
   
       8 . The apparatus of  claim 7 , wherein said entry includes non-textual content.  
   
   
       9 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein said non-textual content comprise graphics.  
   
   
       10 . The apparatus of  claim 7 , wherein said keyword corresponds to a keyword defined by said owner.  
   
   
       11 . The apparatus of  claim 7 , further comprising means for allowing said user to add a URL to said entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       12 . The apparatus of  claim 7 , further comprising means for allowing said user to add a hyperlink to said entry in said on-line database.  
   
   
       13 . A method for searching entries in an on-line database comprising: 
 a web server and an associated database, the web server including an HTML front-ending process configured to:    receive a query from a user to search an on-line database, the query including at least a category and a keyword;    retrieve a list of search results responsive to the search, the search results including an entry previously posted by an owner, the entry being indexed in a category defined by said owner of said entry; and    present a search results page to said user, said search results page including the at least one category defined by an owner and an associated description provided by said owner.    
   
   
       14 . The web server of  claim 13 , wherein said entry includes non-textual content.
