Bottle with extended neck finish and method of making same
Abstract
A blow molded synthetic resin bottle has a body and an elongated neck with the body providing a shoulder extending about the base of the neck. The neck has a first collar extending thereabout spaced adjacent the shoulder and at least one additional collar extending thereabout adjacent the upper end of the neck. The resin in the neck is substantially unoriented. To produce the bottle, a synthetic resin preform is injection molded with a generally tubular body and the elongated neck. This preform is placed in a blow mold cavity having a body receiving portion and a neck receiving portion that has a recess extending thereabout seating the first collar therein. The additional collar is disposed outwardly of the mold cavity and is disposed on the upper surface of the mold.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A blow molded synthetic resin bottle having a body and an elongated neck finish, said body providing a shoulder extending about the base of said neck finish, said neck finish having a first collar extending thereabout spaced adjacent said shoulder and at least one additional collar extending thereabout adjacent the upper end of said neck finish, the resin in said first collar and in said neck finish thereabove being substantially unoriented.
2 . The synthetic resin bottle in accordance with claim 1 wherein said neck finish has a thread formation thereabout above said at least one additional collar for seating a closure.
3 . The synthetic resin bottle in accordance with claim 1 wherein said first collar is provided with lugs configured and dimensioned to cooperate with a child-resistant cap which is engaged therewith.
4 . The synthetic resin bottle in accordance with claim 3 wherein said first collar has an upper portion of substantially the same diameter as said other collar and a lower portion of larger diameter, said upper portion having circumferentially spaced lugs to provide the engagement with a child-resistant cap.
5 . The synthetic resin bottle in accordance with claim 1 wherein said at least one other collar comprises a pair of axially spaced rings adapted to seat a carrier arm therebetween.
6 . In a method for making synthetic resin blow molded bottles, the steps comprising:
(a) injection molding a synthetic resin preform having a generally tubular body portion and an elongated neck finish with a first collar adjacent said body portion and a second collar adjacent the upper end of said neck portion; (b) placing said preform in a blow mold cavity having a body receiving portion and a neck receiving portion, said neck receiving portion of said cavity having a recess extending thereabout seating said first collar therein, said additional collar being disposed outwardly of said mold cavity and seated on the upper surface of said mold; and (c) blowing said body portion of said preform into conformity with the walls of said body portion of said cavity to provide a blow molded synthetic resin bottle having a body portion and an elongated neck finish, said body providing a shoulder extending about said neck finish, said neck finish having a first collar extending thereabout spaced a short distance above said shoulder and at least one additional collar extending thereabout adjacent the upper end of said neck finish, the resin in said neck finish being substantially unoriented.
7 . The method for making synthetic resin blow molded bottles in accordance with claim 6 wherein said molding step produces a thread formation on said neck portion above said additional collar.
8 . The method for making synthetic resin bottle in accordance with claim 6 wherein said collars have substantially the same outer diameter.
9 . The method for making synthetic resin bottle in accordance with claim 6 wherein said first collar is provided with lugs configured and dimensioned to cooperate with a child-resistant cap which engages therewith.
10 . The method for making synthetic resin bottle in accordance with claim 6 wherein said at least one other collar comprises a pair of axially spaced rings adapted to seat a carrier arm therebetween.Cited by (0)
