Abstract

The present invention provides methods of inhibiting metastasis of a tumor and methods of treating a tumor using a combination of an inhibitor of the activation of nuclear factor NF-κB and a cancer chemotherapeutic agent. In one embodiment of the present invention, combination of curcumin and paclitaxel (taxol) can be used to treat and inhibit metastasis of breast tumor.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 24 . (canceled)

25 . A method treating a chemoresistant cancer in a subject, comprising the steps of:
 a) administering to said subject a curcuminoid, and b) administering to said subject one or more chemotherapeutic agent, wherein the chemoresistant cancer becomes chemosensitive to said one or more chemotherapeutic agents as a result of administration of said curcuminoid.

26 . The method of claim 25 , wherein said subject is a human.

27 . The method of claim 25 , wherein a cell of the cancer overexpress NF-κB.

28 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the cancer is selected from the group consisting of breast cancer, prostate cancer, melanoma, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, and multiple myeloma

29 . The method of claim 25 , wherein said one or more chemotherapeutic agents are selected from the group consisting of paclitaxel, gemcitabin, 5-flurouracil, etoposide, cispaltin, campothecin, vincristine and doxorubicin.

30 . The method of claim 25 , wherein said curcuminoid is administered orally.

31 . The method of claim 25 , wherein said dose of the curcuminoid is from about 10 mg/kg to about 1000 mg/kg.

32 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the cancer is a multiple myeloma.

33 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the cells of the multiple myeloma cells are CD138.sup.+plasma cells.

34 . The method of claim 25 , wherein said one or more cancer chemotherapeutic agents are selected from the group consisting of paclitaxel, gemcitabin, 5-flurouracil, etoposide, cispaltin, campothecin, vincristine and doxorubicin.
