Abstract

A won/lost record system for an athletic event includes awarding the team accumulating a greater score during a first period standing points for that period, awarding the team accumulating a greater score during a second period standing points for that period, awarding the team accumulating a greater score during a third period standing points for that period, awarding the team accumulating a greater score during a fourth period standing points for that period, awarding the team having a greater score at the end of the game standing points for the game, and summing the standing points awarded throughout the game to obtain a game record total for each team.

1 . A won/lost record system for an athletic event having independent periods constituting a game, said athletic event having first and second teams that accumulate respective first and second scores throughout the athletic event in accordance with rules of the athletic event, said system comprising: 
 awarding the team accumulating a greater score during a first period standing points for said period;    awarding the team accumulating a greater score during a second period standing points for said period;    awarding the team accumulating a greater score during a third period standing points for said period;    awarding the team accumulating a greater score during a fourth period standing points for said period;    awarding the team having a greater score at the end of the game standing points for the game;    summing the standing points awarded throughout the game to obtain a game record total for each team.    
   
   
       2 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein game record totals for a plurality of games are summed to determine relative rankings of teams playing the athletic event in a predetermined league.  
   
   
       3 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the standing points have numeric values that are all equal.  
   
   
       4 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein at least one standing points has a numeric value different from numeric values of other standing points.  
   
   
       5 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the game standing points has a numeric value larger than the numeric value of the other standing points.  
   
   
       6 . The system as set forth in  claim 5  wherein the game standing points has a numeric value from two to seven times the numeric value of any other standing points.  
   
   
       7 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the athletic event is football.  
   
   
       8 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the athletic event is basketball.  
   
   
       9 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the athletic event is soccer.  
   
   
       10 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the periods are quarters.  
   
   
       11 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the periods are halves.  
   
   
       12 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein standing points are awarded to the team accumulating a greater score during each period.  
   
   
       13 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the standing points for a period where the teams accumulate the same score during said period is split evenly between the teams.  
   
   
       14 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein no standing points is awarded for a period where the teams accumulate the same score during said period.  
   
   
       15 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the number of standing points for the game is larger than the numeric value of standing points for the periods, all the standing points except the game standing points being equal.  
   
   
       16 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the standing points for the first period has a numeric value larger than the numeric value for any other period.  
   
   
       17 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the team that accumulates a lesser score during a period is awarded fewer standing points for that period than the team that accumulates the greater score during said period.  
   
   
       18 . The system as set forth in  claim 17  wherein the numeric value of the standing points awarded the team with the lesser score is a function of the difference in scores accumulated during said period.  
   
   
       19 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein no standing points are awarded for any overtime period.  
   
   
       20 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein the standing points for at least one period have a value of zero.  
   
   
       21 . The system as set forth in  claim 1  wherein a standing points is awarded to the team accumulating the greater score during any overtime period.
