Adaptor apparatus for removal of a plug assembly from a well bore

Abstract

An adaptor apparatus for use in facilitating removal and retrieval of a plug assembly from a well bore. The apparatus is structured for slidably entering, locking and sealing the plug assembly within the well bore. On further movement of the adaptor apparatus the plug assembly may be unsealed and an end of the apparatus connected to a pulling tool, whereby the plug assembly and adaptor apparatus are unitarily equalized and withdrawn from the well bore by a single wireline run.

1 . An adaptor apparatus for use in facilitating removal and retrieval of a plug assembly from a well bore, said apparatus comprising: 
 means for slidably entering and locking said plug assembly within said well bore in internal, abutting engagement within said plug assembly at a first location;    means for unsealing said plug assembly when said adaptor apparatus is further slidably moved within said plug assembly to a second location;    means for connecting an end of said adaptor apparatus to pulling means for pulling said adaptor apparatus from said well bore;    means responsive to said pulling of said adaptor apparatus for unsealing said plug assembly;    further means responsive to said pulling of said adaptor apparatus for latching said plug assembly to said adaptor apparatus;    whereby said plug assembly and said adaptor unitarily equalized and apparatus may be unitarily equalized and withdrawn from said well bore by a single wireline run.    
   
   
       2 . The adaptor apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein said means for slidably entering and locking said plug assembly comprises a plurality of collet fingers for engaging a top surface of said plug assembly and remaining stationary upon further movement of a remainder of said adaptor apparatus within said plug assembly.  
   
   
       3 . The adaptor apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein a coil spring is compressed by said further movement until a finger mandrel disengages said collet fingers to an extent permitting said coil spring to push said collet fingers back to a starting position.  
   
   
       4 . The adaptor apparatus of  claim 3 , wherein said means for sealing and said means for unsealing said plug assembly includes a seal for selectively engaging and disengaging a port of said plug assembly.  
   
   
       5 . The adaptor apparatus of  claim 4 , wherein said further means responsive to said pulling of said adaptor apparatus for latching said plug assembly to said adaptor apparatus for latching said plug assembly to said adaptor apparatus includes a shear pin.  
   
   
       6 . The adaptor apparatus of  claim 4 , wherein said further means responsive to said pulling of said adaptor apparatus for latching said plug assembly to said adaptor apparatus includes a finger mandrel that moves a finger collet into latching engagement with said plug assembly.
