Display device

Abstract

A display panel 1 and a frame 2 , provided on the periphery of the display panel, are included. The frame 2 includes a supporting portion 2 for supporting the display panel 1 on the periphery thereof (i.e., on the principal surface of the substrate of the display panel 1 ). The supporting portion 2 includes a flat portion 2 a and a first curved portion 2 b , which are provided so as to face the principal surface of the substrate 1 . The first curved portion 2 b is continuous with the flat portion 2 a . The principal surface of the substrate 1 is fixed onto the flat portion 2 a either directly or indirectly. While no external force is being applied to the display panel 1 , a gap is left between the principal surface of the substrate 1 and the curved portion 2 b.

1 . A display device comprising a display panel with a substrate, and a frame including a supporting portion for supporting the display panel on the periphery thereof and on a principal surface of the substrate, 
 wherein the supporting portion includes a flat portion and a first curved portion, which are opposed to the principal surface of the substrate, the first curved portion being continuous with the flat portion, and    wherein the principal surface of the substrate is fixed onto the flat portion either directly or indirectly, and    wherein while no external force is being applied to the substrate, a gap is left between the principal surface of the substrate and the first curved portion.    
   
   
       2 . The display device of  claim 1 , wherein the supporting portion includes a second curved portion that faces the first curved portion.  
   
   
       3 . The display device of  claim 1 , wherein the principal surface of the substrate is fixed onto the flat portion with an adhesive layer.  
   
   
       4 . The display device of  claim 1 , further comprising a reinforcing plate between the principal surface of the substrate and the flat portion of the supporting portion.  
   
   
       5 . The display device of  claim 4 , wherein the reinforcing plate is fixed onto the flat portion with an adhesive layer.  
   
   
       6 . The display device of  claim 1 , wherein the supporting portion is made of an elastic material.  
   
   
       7 . The display device of  claim 1 , wherein the substrate is a plastic substrate.  
   
   
       8 . The display device of  claim 2 , wherein the principal surface of the substrate is fixed onto the flat portion with an adhesive layer.  
   
   
       9 . The display device of  claim 2 , further comprising a reinforcing plate between the principal surface of the substrate and the flat portion of the supporting portion.  
   
   
       10 . The display device of  claim 9 , wherein the reinforcing plate is fixed onto the flat portion with an adhesive layer.  
   
   
       11 . The display device of  claim 2 , wherein the supporting portion is made of an elastic material.  
   
   
       12 . The display device of  claim 2 , wherein the substrate is a plastic substrate.
